well, the season's are changin once again, and you have to have your summer soundtrack..for me the best summer cd by the hip is road apples..it's got a great backyard bbq feel to it!!

just for the sake of not agreeing (since I think you're right), I'll pick Phantom Power, which will always remind me of the summer of 1998 when I returned to Canada from Scotland in time for a new Hip CD, my brother's wedding, a trip to the Toledo Zoo, and my first date with the lady who turned out to be my future wife.
Fireworks is a very summery song, no? Vapour Trails is all open roads and open windows. Bobcaygeon is a starry night. And, Emperor Penguin, the lord of all penguin tunes.
(cuz, damn it, nothing says "summer" like an album who's first lyric is "Spring starts ..." and which ends with a song about birds on ice floes.)

good choice, but I have to go with Up To Here for me, whether Im bbq'n or driving to the beach or camping its the first one I go for, then FC. Both have that top down road rock feel, NOIS, Opiated, Trickle Down, Boots or Hearts, Everytime You Go, Locked, Courage, Fully. Awesome driving and chill out music. I think the Hip have an album for all seasons, Day For Night is a wintertime album and I think Phantom Power is a springtime album, I mean its the first thing you hear: "Spring starts when a heartbeat's pounding" :lol: And Id go with M@W for the Fall..the rest is up in the air.
Nothing says summertime better than The Hip blasting on a stereo, the smell of bbq and campfire in the air, the first sip of that ice cold beer on the patio, sound of the waves....SUMMER RULES!! :thumb:

I'd say IVL just because the summer it was released, they pulled into Camrose and played their hearts out,and holy hell it was hottt 8) as tanked as I was, I remember the heattt :twisted: almost got into fist a cuffs because I didn't want to hear anything else but IVL
that was 1 weekend I won't soon forget, well most of it

I'd definitely say my summer hip album is Phantom Power, mostly because I like to listen to it when I travel, and I travel a lot in the summer.

I also have to say Phantom Power. There is nothing better to listen to while you are sitting around a camp fire with a bunch of friends drinking beer.

Just drove 8 hours from Chicago to my Kansas-Citian exile and listened to IVL 4 times. Solid album, and very under rated!

Phantom Power, baby. That album came out during one of the greatest summers of my life. It'll forever be my summer soundtrack.

I like IBE as a summer album. Road Apples too, though doesn't quite have a "Barbecue" feel to me. More like a windows-open rocker.
Weirdly enough, i've always thought of Fully Completely as a winter album. I got it in winter, and it'd always wake me up driving through frigid weather in the early hours of morning, rocking out to Looking for a Place to Happen and 100th Meridian.

I like PP as a summer album as I got it on a day that was like 95 degrees. As I drove home from the Borders with the windows wide open, that awesome johnny fay drum beat started blasting out of the speakers. I headed straight for the frozen food section for some reprieve.
