Canadian version of Live 8? -

Just found this article on Canoe. Looks like World Vision is trying to get something going. Maybe they'll do it in Winnipeg and they can finally get Neil Young to play his hometown. Neil and the Hip could co-headline.

Since Canada is a G8 country I dont see why we shouldn't have one of our own. I hope the Hip would jump on board, have to wait and see. I think the safe bet is that it would be in Toronto (as usual)

Well, Toronto is the centre of the universe, so you're probably right.

It looks like it's going to be in Ottawa. OLP is the only rumoured band I've heard so far though...

On The Bear in Ottawa this morning they also mentioned Bryan Adams, Jann Arden and The Barenaked Ladies in addition to OLP and that it's being planned for Parliament Hill... All just rumours though.

Man, those are some crappy rumors. Why does every big Canadian concert event have to involve bands that are completely irrelevent? Bryan Adams?? Seriously, who's gonna watch that? If they want people to attend this concert (or watch on TV), they're gonna have to get a little creative. Anybody who's read any rock magazines recently knows that Canadian indie-rock is the hippest thing in music at the moment. People all over the world are salivating over Canadian bands. So here's my realistic idea for the Ottawa edition of Live 8 if I were running the show (with a few current big names to attract the kiddies):
Neil Young
The Tragically Hip
Our Lady Peace (not a fan myself, but the kids love 'em)
Avril Lavigne (I don't like her either, but let's face it, she's the biggest Canadian female in the world right now and she'd attract a huge audience. And from what I've read, this thing is all about getting as many people to the show as possible)
Blue Rodeo
Sam Roberts
K-OS
Sum 41 (see OLP)
Sloan
The Arcade Fire
The Weakerthans
Sarah Harmer
Matt Mays & El Torpedo
Ron Sexsmith
Broken Social Scene
Kathleen Edwards
Daniel Lanois
Chris Brown & Kate Fenner (they're always involved in stuff like this)
Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir
Not THAT'S a lineup that'll attract an audience!

The Darkest Canuck - 06-04-2005
if i was organizing it, it'd look like this:
Neil Young
The Hip
The Tea Party
Sam Roberts
K-OS
Sloan
The Arcade Fire
Billy Talent
Thornley
Death From Above 1979
Grady
Breach Of Trust
Warparty
OLP suck, BNL are ok, but kinda "meh"...

TDC, you've got a great lineup there, though I might scratch Billy Talent. I would include BNL and The Weakerthans would need to be in there too.
