Favorite song intro (musically) - Lizard King - 05-17-2005

Before the search police come knocking, I did a search and this was the closest thread I found but it was more about the opening lines of a song and not the music that leads in http://www.hipbase.com/forum/viewtopic. ... rite+intro

What I was pondering was, over time we've heard some cool musical intros to songs ie: Metallica-One, The Doors'-Riders on the Storm, Coldplay's-Clocks or The Stones'-Start Me Up who doesnt reconize that riff? Jimi's-Purple Haze lick is pretty awesome, or one of my fave's Nirvana's-Come As You Are....(there's too many to name really) Yes the first 15-30 seconds of a song can have a real lasting effect or impact, that being said anyone have a particular Hip favorite? Which ones really stand out, or make you jump out of your seat or scream I love that tune sweeeet!!

I can name some of my own favorites..

1. Opiated-one of absolute favorites, those first few riffs always get me going, especially the first time I heard them live, I was knocked on my ass. Also one of my favorite Hip songs as well.

2. Pigeon Camera-I dont know what it is but I just love the first 30 seconds of the song, I think it started the first time I saw Heksenketel, when it was playing during the bus ride. I always put it on my Hip CD-R's

3. If New Orleans Is Beat-such a sweet song, I love the opening, its puts me in a good mood everytime I hear it.

4. Mean Streak-this one is especially cool on the Toronto livedownloads version. Love it.

I could go on forever here, but I'll leave some for the rest of you's. Im more of a sucker for the slow songs, especially when it comes to the Hip, they have some of all-time faves.

I've always enjoyed the opening riff from Cordelia... subtle, just hinting at how it will break out later in the song.

But I think my favourite is Fully Completely... the cool opening guitar chords pairing with the bass line... golden! :thumb:

All Tore Up, man that is a sweet riff.

the obvious choice especially live, Grace Too.

the intro they did to poets during the last tour especially at the Canada Day show was awesome.

Thugs and Eldorado have a pretty awesome intro too.

New Orleans is sinking. Hands down! I always feel a little dirty and naughty when I hear the opening guitar riff. hehehehehe

I think this comes down to our favorite songs, because even though its a different question entirely, the intro is usually indicitive of the rest of the song.

Saying that: Sherpa, 700 ft., Grace would be my three.

In terms of something that always gives me goosebumps, it's a simple choice: Nautical Disaster. I'm also really digging the intro to Gus lately.

i would have to say it has to be that mystical beginning in escape. it is so mellow and cool, it always gives me the chills, not to mention that the song is amazing as well.

Eldorado, the Wherewithal, Gus, and The Completists. (I like the banging-erasers sound in the beginning.)
