Its gonna be a sweet system. Good to see Xbox Live refined, that thing was sketchy, it needed uprgrading, the detachable 20GBHD and wireless controllers are a great bonus. But Im planning to go with the PS3, I think it will blow it away in the long run. Or I just might get both like last time. 8) Either way, they both are going to be amazing, I cant wait to play them. I prefer Sony, mostly for certain games...Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy etc... But Halo 3 is going to be massive, the way Halo2 ended has left a void in me that needs filling, I must play 3! Im so tempted to buy both, I think I might have to sell a kidney or rob a liquor store. I just hope I can get one Sad Maybe you can pull some strings for me gratts, you owe me, after all I did save your life in Vietnam man!

this might be true since the ps3 will not be out till late 2006. giving them a full year of new "cell" technology.. basically they want to do what xbox did to them

halo 3 will be released the day ps3 comes out.(smart, yes). making it the biggest retail day ever for sure.... oh god im so dreading that day!

CAN YOU PLAY YOUR ORIGINAL XBOX GAMES IN THE NEW XBOX 360!!!!

SHANE

- Lizard King - 05-14-2005

Hey gratts, you have any idea on the retail price for the xbox360? I was hearing either $299-399.00, or that microsoft will come out with different bundles varying in price, is that true? Just wondering if you've heard anything.

- joshwayy - 05-14-2005

Whatever it is, It will be worth the price to see the Master Chief in action again. I'm on my third run through H3 on legendary and still haven't found all the hidden skulls.

Microsoft is not saying yet if the 360 will be able to play the old Xbox games.

- gratts99 - 05-14-2005

If you could play old games on the 360, they would of brought that up by now. So i am 90% confident in saying NO, you cannot play old xbox games in xbox 360.

Why??? Well becasue they would have to put this old technology in the new system taking away the graphic capibilites if the 360..
also because the manufactures of the chipset in the 2 systems are different.

The price is rumored to be $300 american. we are telling ppl to assume that they will pay for 360 what they paid for xbox 1.. $400-450

Maybe Macs are better for gaming as well? Microsoft, what do you think? I see that you are running the demos of your new Xbox on Macintosh systems, and the new processor is based on the technology that Macs have used since 1994...

Along with a firm release date and price point, the other big question surrounding the 360 was backward compatibility with the library of games from the original Xbox. Robbie Bach, senior vice president and chief Xbox officer in the Home and Entertainment Division at Microsoft, made Xbox fans around the world happy when he announced that the 360 will indeed play Xbox games.

Acutally they have announced that it will only be backwards compatible with a selection of prior "top selling" xbox titles.....meaning most likely microsoft 1st party games. Also they will use a emulator program(yuck) to achieve this.

Can some of you tech-savvy individuals help me out here, Ive been looking over the specs of the new Playstation3 and I was wondering if you could help me understand some of these terms. Here is the article...

Sony also laid out the technical specs of the device. The PlayStation 3 will feature the much-vaunted Cell processor, which will run at 3.2GHz, giving the whole system 2 teraflops of overall performance. It will sport 256MB XDR main RAM at 3.2GHz, and it will have 256MB of GDDR VRAM at 700MHz.

Sony also unveiled the PS3's graphics chip, the RSX "Reality Synthesizer," which is based on Nvidia technology. The GPU will be capable of 128bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution--some of the highest HD resolution around. The RSX also has 512MB of graphics render memory and is capable of 100 billion shader operations and 51 billion dot products per second. It also has more than 300 million transistors, larger than any processor commercially available today. It will be manufactured using the 90nm process, with eight layers of metal. The RSX is more powerful than two GeForce 6800 Ultra video cards, which would cost roughly $1,000 total if purchased today.

Firstly, what are Teraflops, and what do they relate to?
What is the 90nm process?

Based on whats been published so far, does the PS3 seem like its a little better than xbox360, roughly the same or is it a LOT better?

Im trying to decide which way to go, Ive been waying the pros and cons of both, at this point and yes I know its very early to be doing so, but I am an absolute fanatic when it comes to video games and gaming in general, its my passion (yes it sounds geeky I know, but I dont care) Tongue So Im trying to decide who should get lots of my well earned money-Microsoft or Sony? Im leaning strongly to xbox at this point. The rumour going is that because of all the high-tech "stuff" in the PS3, its going to drive the price over $400 USD, and maybe as high as $700, if thats the case I definitely wont be buying both. The xbox360 is said to retail at $299, which is fair considering its prowess. The only things pulling me to Sony again is the usual, playing Gran Turismo5 and whatever the next Final Fantasy may be. Thankfully I have until November to decide, I wont be surprised if Im still undecided by then  (but Im sure my wife will make me choose anyways)
