Calling all fans of The Tragically Hip! Exercise your right to vote for your TOP 10 favourite tracks of ALL TIME from Canada's beloved band, THE TRAGICALLY HIP! This isn't an easy task!!! The Hip have recorded so many gems over the past 20 years - from the first EP to their most recent release IN BETWEEN EVOLUTION. So the challenge is yours! Can you pick ONLY ten? I'll bet you can't, so go back often and pick another ten. I'll bet no matter how hard you try you, will never be able to fit all of your favourites from The Hip in one Top 10 list. Once the voting period on Sympatico MSN has ended - our internal scutineers will be auditing the votes and we will use the results to assist in compiling a very special 2CD retrospective from The Tragically Hip, which will be released later this fall. I'd just like to reiterate for the record: "booooooooooooooooo". I hope the second CD is unreleased material, or this is gonna be a total letdown.

I have a dozen home-made double-CD compilations of the Hip's greatest hits. [I know other people may not, and the band likes to make money too, and it's called the recording "industry" cuz it's an industry ... I know, I know; but: "booooooooooo"]

Can I get an "Amen: boooo!" from any brothers and sisters out there??

While I'd obviously prefer unreleased material to 'previously released' material, I'm not opposed (in principle) to 2 a disc....

As long as the second disc is a 'best of' and not a 'greatest hits'. Obviously, a greatest hits is going to have... what... nois, nautical, blow, grace, courage, little bones, abac, etc.... all the 'standards'.

I think a second disc is a great chance to pull out some gems that the average joe on the street (the guy who doesn't go to all the shows, and doesn't own all of the CDs) might not know... I'll plug lake fever, cuz I love it... but could also include (my list) : josephine, darkest one, escape is at hand, emporer penguin, flamenco, three pistols, another midnight, etc....

Plus the obligatory 4 unreleased tracks....
2 per album, of course... Smile

its been done, Im tired of voting on this, its a waste of time, does anyone think if "Im a Werewolf Baby" got the most votes they'd still put it on?

i;m sure there will be new materrial on it, as the boys are recording/writting new stuff. And are not touring this year, they are only playing in PEI, because they missed it on the last tour.

No Hip at Bayfest this year, and hopefully never again. The last one sucked, and the one before that was oversold. Looky here....

I agree. To quote Bruce McCulloch: "Greatest hits albums are for housewives and little girls." Don't get me wrong, I want to support the Hip, but unless they put some unreleased/new stuff on there, I don't think I'll be buying it.

What's really a drag about Greatest Hits CDs is that they tend to crowd out an artist's actual, original releases. For instance, if you go to your average record store, you'll find many copies of Bob Dylan's various 'Greatest Hits' collections and maybe three or four of his other albums. That's out of what, 25 albums? This problem gets more severe as an artist's body of work grows vaster, and I think it could actually hurt the Hip in the long run. Good luck finding 'Henhouse' in a few years...

But of course, were they to include demos and rarities on the 2nd CD, I'd be there. :thumb:

I guess the bigger question here is, what should they do? What does the Hip owe us? Personally I would like to see the band make the most of this opportunity, because GH's are part of music contracts and they have to do it, so why not use this as an opportunity to showcase their best music and accompany that with some unreleased songs and re-makes of the b-sides we've come to know and love, and with the DVD scheduled to be released around the same time, I think the Hip should take full advantage of their popularity and go all out with this, and I will buy it no matter what they do (or dont do). But Im tired of beating this dead horse, its not coming out for months anyway. Im just worried this whole debate will rage on all year and moreso as the release date draws closer. I think this Greatest Hits is just a pebble in the road to the next album, thats what Im looking forward to the most. The best thing this greatest hits album could do is spawn some concerts for the winter and maybe New Years? It would give them a chance to test out the new material and play some classics as well. I can dream cant I?

Dead enough to no longer realize that it is being beaten, at which point we will stop beating the dead horse since we have already established that we should cease said beating.
