the blue rodeo show in kamloops - opiated - 04-11-2005
well..the boys were in fine form last night, and treated the crowd to an amazing show..the new tunes sounded tight, and an acoustic set with just jim and greg was really cool...even basil got in the act and sang (and anybody who has seen basil would be shocked he could sing...) great bunch of guys, got to meet them before the show, and introduced the acts..matt mays was an amazing opening act, although only six songs...*****HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT ALERT***** For blue rodeos encore they bring matt mays out, play a song i can't quite place right now, but it was rockin'...then...with matt taking the vocals, and rodeo as his band..they do TOM THUMB'S BLUES by Dylan...WOW!!! all around a great night, great music, and had some beers with matt and the boys..i will try to post pics later, and my interview with matt i did along with his acoustic "lost souls"....

thanks..it was a blast..and i almost forgot..the blue shirt security were being normally uptight last night,getting people to sit down, and during one song, the band suddenly stopped playing and yelled and them saying..."look...let these people dance, or we're not playing..." and everybody ran the to the front and danced, and had a great time...

Its a concert, let the people dance! Its not a wayne newton show. :roll:

What did they make Baz sing this time? For a while (about 2000?) it was Shel Silverstein's "I Got Stoned And I Missed It," and then long about 2002 it was "Little Ol' Wine Drinker Me" (which my friends were amused to find out I already knew--my parents have an eclectic record collection.) (At first they just thought I was the biggest Bazil fan on earth...)
Anyway, for a while I think Jim called him Bazil "I Never Sing About Sobriety" Donovan--can I look forward to yet another substance-abuse classic when they play Halifax??

Anybody hear the new album (Are You Ready) yet? Its a great album, a must for any BR fan. Man their music sure hasnt taken a dip in quality at all, they still know how to bring it. Lots of great musical styles on this album, I really enjoyed it. :thumb:

Thanks! And yes, they're a really warm bunch, it shows onstage how much fun they have.
I saw them in a club in Dallas one night and it was about the best show I've ever seen. Afterward the band came out and talked to everyone who hung around--in fact, Bob Egan pretty much set down his guitar and walked right out to chat. He and Glenn Milchem made a point of speaking to me and the group I was with, probably because we were right in front of Bob all night long and he could see we knew all the songs. Lovely guys.
And the new album is a winner, isn't it?
