Great, the TTC is going on strike, and I can't even work from home. Ayone else going to be screwed from the strike?

Let the chaos begin..I'm feeling sorry for everyone living in TTC range..It's going to be hard..I don't think it will last too long though.

Mayor David Miller is talking with Premier McGuinty this weekend... and back-to-work legislation is on his mind. TTC should be labeled an essential service, so that a strike is out of the question.

For those who don't know who or what the TTC are, they are the Toronto Transit Commission. Basically, the buses and subway.
I lived in Toronto during a TTC strike back in 1990 (I think that was the year). It sucked hard. The TTC is great, reliable and efficient but not when they are on strike or work to rule :/
Good luck Torontonians!

SO SCREWED I AM!
I'm a 905 commuter to Ryerson, and this is just in time for exams too. Wonderful. Fortunately I have no early classes or exams left, so I won't have to wake up too early in the morning. I may also stay at a friend's at about St. Clair and Bathurst and bike to school. Still, this is a pain in the ass.

I agree with Chris. A service like this should not be allowed to strike. Numerous people depend heavily on pubilc transportation and have no other options available to them. Yes the employees deserve fair treatment and wages but there are other ways of achieving this without screwing over the very people who secure their jobs in the first place.

They have over 1,000,000 riders per day; that is a huge number of people who depend on the service to live.
There is no question in my mind that it is an essential service.

It is absolutely an essential service, and hopefully the powers that be can get this mess settled this weekend. Anyone else sem to think this happens every other year or so. Work out a 10 year deal already.

A deal was reached on Sunday evening, so thank goodness for that. It was a three-year deal... so expect some of the same "will we strike or won't we" song and dance around this time 2008...
