Other cool Juno performances - direwolf74 - 04-04-2005

The Hip stole the show, but I thought K-OS, Leslie Feist, and K.d. Lang all gave excellent performances. I've never liked K.d. Lang's music, but her rendition of Neil Young's "Helpless" was absolutely beautiful. And kudos to Leslie Feist for soldiering on through what looked like to be sound problems with her guitar.

Other than that, the show sucked.

I was a little disappointed with Brent Butt... I thought he would be better than he was as host, because he's usually a pretty funny guy.

K-OS was good... I'm not a fan of that genre of music usually, but he's a really talented musician and a refreshing change of pace from most rappers who are about nothing but "bling-bling" and "bitches and hos".

I was intrigued by Feist's performance... too bad about the technical problems, but she improvised very nicely.

And I guess k.d. lang's performance of Helpless was the "love letter" to Neil Young they were talking about... or did I miss something? Because I was expecting something more than that. Oh well, I guess it's tough to plan much on short notice.

Let's see... what else? Simple Plan... blah. Billy Talent... OK. Sum 41... didn't bother watching them because they piss me off. And that's all I got.

Yeah, I thought there would be something else as far as the "love letter" thing but it was alright. I'm not a big KD fan but she did have a great performance of her versions of Cohen and Young.

Simple Plan....blah (sorry for stealing that but your description of blah is the best I can think of)

Billy Talent... it was decent.

Sum 41... had a full orchestra to at least make the song sound respectable. They piss me off too. They have no respect for bands like The Hip and 54-40 and Ron Sexsmith, etc.. . instead they assume that good music is Motley Crue. It doesn't bother me too much because I would never buy a sum 41 record but I admit that they tick me off a little bit. I just don't care for their attitude and lack of respect for music that is far superior to them. I don't think they realize that their music is part of a trend right now and when this punk trend ends, so do Sum 41, Avril, Simple Plan and oh what a glorious time it will be.

K-OS was alright. He was good but didn't blow me away.

Feist was alright I guess. I'll assume she is very talented by the things other musicians say about her but I thought her song was very boring. Not my type of music I guess.

The thing at the end was just fair. It wasn't great but it was a good thing to have a tribute to Winnipeg music.

The Hip were great. It looked to me like the crowd was still more into the inferior bands though. I'd say the Hip, KD Lang, and Billy Talent put on the three best performances but that would have been a given if I'd picked before the show.

Well, at least we don't have to claim Ashlee Simpson.

I enjoyed the show, although I was also disappointed in Brent Butt. I generally find his standup funny, but he just looked lost. Buddy from Finger Eleven applauding with his beer cup clenched in his teeth was much funnier.

we may not have to take credit for ashlee simpsons, but we still have to deal with Celine Dion.

Call it a wash.

I would have to disagree and say that most of the people there last night were there for the Hip because they definately drew the biggest response out of all the bands that performed. It was nice to see many others rocking out when the Hip took the stage. There was even a guy in my area that started to "Gord" out...too funny.

I thought k. d. lang sucked big time.

We disowned Celine Dion. That's why she moved to Vegas.

ALot of it is named Billy!

- NMAS - 04-04-2005

Ron Sexsmith should have been one of the performers for sure. Billy Talent haven't even released an album this year??? have they? Have they been nominated two years in a row for the same album????
Ron has an amazing new album, it should have been showcased.

- das_hips - 04-04-2005

Billy Talent has been nominated two years in a row for the same album, thats one of the many things I'll never really understand. Also, how Avril Lavigne gets nominated for 'Songwriter of the Year', when her music is co-written with 'The Matrix', a production company that's paid to write songs for hacks like Avril Lavigne and Hillary Duff. Nothing to dramatic, but Fefe Dobson was nominated two years in row for the same album as well.

Either way, the only performances I enjoyed were K-OS and The Hip. Billy Talents' sound just seemed so empty following the Hip, KD don't do it for me, SUM blows, really, that was terrible.
