i`ve been hearing alot of arguments that this bigger net will make all previous scoring records irrelevent...i disagree, i think that bigger nets will offset the size of goalies equipment...i mean, wouldn`t it be nice to have,oh i dont know, maybe 9-10 guys with 100 pts rather than MAYBE 1?

Theodore (and anyone else who plays for the Habs) is a wanker. He somehow thinks he's the only goalie in the world that would be affected by this. And if he's so certain that larger goalie equipment has nothing to do with decreased scoring, then why doesn't he volunteer to reduce his equipment to mid-80s levels and prove it?

What's with the ice in that pic? Are they playing on mirrors?

Being a goaltender I feel changing the nets is STUPID!!!

The game has been the same for decades. Leave the nets alone. They want to increase goal production, call penalties on the holding, hooking, obstruction that constantly goes on in the game and is just accepted when it shouldn't. If you're labelled a goal scorer you're going to be held and harassed the entire game by some lowbrow goon who is "only doing his job." They start calling those penalties, you'll see goal scoring increase. I'm also leaning towards removing the red line. It's proven itself in international hockey to be good at opening the ice up.

Also, I agree that goaltender pads and oversized sweaters need to be checked. Patrick Roy started it and while one can make the reason for it is protection, we all know it's to make himself bigger so he has a better chance of the puck hitting him. How they police this one I don't know.

Just leave the damn nets alone.

The game has most certainly not been the same for decades. There are rules changes/ modifications every year. When teams get too dominant (think mid 80s Oilers), rules get changed (offsetting minors ring a bell?).

But I'm with you - making those nets that weird-assed would be a bit much. I say make the equipment smaller (for everyone - some of the shoulder pads d-men where these days are ridiculous) and ban those stupid one piece composite sticks that add speed to shots, but break at the most inopportune times.

Another myth. Do you know where the trap is used even more than the NHL? Europe. Why? Because of the larger ice surfaces. Think of the Czech Republic teams. Trap trap trap trap trap, "exciting" 2-1 games with a combined 21 shots. No thanks.

I honestly believe it comes down to smaller equipment for goalies, and calling the obstruction. You put your stick on a player with or without the puck, CALL IT. If guys who were speedy could use their speed to blow past slow footed d-men and create more odd man rushes, scoring would go up. As it is, the hooking and grabbing all but guarantees even-man rushes, which rarely produce goal scoring opportunities.

I personally think the idea of changing the nets is also retarted...however....as we have seen the viability of the NHL is contingent on the damn Americans (present Hipbase American company excepted) picking up the game and running with it. And it looks like it's gonna take some sort of gimmick like this to pull off the high scoring which the Yanks seem to think they need to watch this game.

We already tried the puck in flaming neon colours thing and that didn't work, I think that shrinking the pads down to mid 80's size as previously mentioned is the best and most viable option.

I also think that having dancing girls in the aisles with pom poms like they do in Europe is also a hell of an idea...it may not fly in the Bible Belt Southern US but for this issue I'm standing firm.

And by the way, that picture looks like Domi is laying some poor Sabre out, not sniping a goal...much more believable if you ask me.
