Kingston's Tribute to the Hip -
scottykarate - 03-30-2005
Came across this on the 20hrtz board. Some local yokels are getting together to sing some hip songs...could be good.

If you scroll down the page, there's a rumour about Paul Langlois and Sarah Harmer jumping on stage tonight at the Grad Club. If I can get a good chunk of my term paper due Friday done today, I'll check it out.
As for the tribute show, well, who knows. It's the thought that counts, right? Good for Chris Morris and the Rock Crew people here in Kingston to pay tribute to the heroes in this way.
Cheers

I know Chris will be playing mostly from Trouble.....and I had the opportunity to pick the songs for Betablokka.....the only stipulation was that they had to all be from DFN.
Since the last time i spoke to Matt was a week ago, i have a feeling that they have changed things a bit.
For sure tunes from them are Fire in the Hole and Inevitability of Death
I wanted them to do I'm a Werewolf Baby (obviously not from dfn)...but it didn't fly.

So i went to the show last nite.....unbelievable.
All the guys from the hip were there except GD.....i think they really enjoyed themselves.
In my opinion Everlea, who were the first to go on, stole the show. Absolutely incredible versions of So Hard Done By and Daredevil.
Next up was Chris Koster who did beautiful renditions of Sherpa and Let's Stay Engaged.
Betablokka followed Koster......Fire in the Hole and Fidler's Green were the hilites of their set.
Unfortunately work this morning prevented me from staying any longer....but the 3 bands that i watched all did fanatastic jobs of making each song their own.
There was a professional camera crew filming the entire show, but i'm not sure who it was.....i will talk with Matt from Betablokka and see if he's gonna get a copy of the show....if he does, i'll pass it on.
Cpt. Trips,
Yeah Betablokka and Chris Koster are the two hottest bands in the city right now.....both are receiving quite a bit of air time on K-Rock...check out Betablokka's website at http://www.betablokka.com. You can listen to some of their new stuff right on the main page. In my opinion, it won't be too long before Betablokka make a national impression.
Anyways, later.
NBS.

Huh. Should've gone then. Stupid essays.
That's the first good review of Everlea I've heard. Good to hear it though, I really ought to check them out before I leave school.
It's also great that the band came out. Didn't think they were high on tribute bands, but nice to know they appreciate the tributes.
Cheers

Betablokka are great. I had the pleasure of opening their cd release in K-Town some time ago...if you see Matt, tell him Derek Downham says hi.
Not Blonde Solid...I must have met you before, methinks.
I've never seen Everlea, but they had nice song choices. I'm curious to see them too.
