RIP Paul Hester of Crowded House - chicagoblackhawks77 - 03-28-2005

One of my favorite bands of all time... Crowded House. Their drummer Paul Hester took his own life this weekend in Melbourne Australia.

Probably the first band I ever really started listening too when I was young. Their albums "Crowded House" and "Woodface" are two of my 10 ten fav albums all time.

A highly underrated band.
He was the comedian in the band, strange how things change for people.

It really is strange how depression can affect people. Lost my best friend almost 2 years ago now to suicide triggered by depression. Scary how it can leave one feeling totally dark alone and with no other way out. Great band, great drummer, and from the concerts I've scene, interviews heard, music videos seen, he really seemed like a genuine and nice guy; all the guys in that band do actually. Truly terrific band. Known over in this hemisphere for "Don't Dream its Over" but they have sooooo many other good tunes. In fact, Canuck artist Jesse Cook did a spanish guitar version of the crowded house classic "Fall at Your Feet" a few years back. Great version and a tribute to how great a band crowded house really was.

i can honestly say ive never heard a song by them. Well maybe I have but I didnt know it. Can anyone recommend something to start off with?

Dude

I'd stay away from the greatest hits. The best two by far are "Woodface" and their first album "Crowded House". You could pick up both of them used for what you'd pay for the greatest hits new. And, both albums have some tremendous songs that are not on the greatest hits. I have recommended both to friends that had not heard of them, and they all rave. That is my suggestion.

I also suggest listening to Woodface. A great album, one that in the past has always seemed to cheer me up from whatever has gotten me down. One of my top 10 albums ever.

Crowded House put on one of the best live shows I have ever seen. A lot of spontaniety and humor, and some great music to boot. No one ever knew what was going to happen - not the band, not the crowd. And much of that was due to Paul Hester. I remember seeing him do cartwheels across the stage to get to his drum kit. He was always the goofy one, and he played that role to the hilt. Guaranteed that everyone left their shows with a smile on their face.

Paul, you will be missed.
