In my opinion CMG was an interesting turn for Downie whose poetic verse is easily the most luring since Frost, but I do believe it was not comparable to The Band as a whole. Never would have even made w/ out the tracks most memorable such as "Canada Geese", "Chancellor" and the unforgetable "Vancouver Divorse". The track "Starpainters" is exceptionally tranquillizing as it is most comparalbe to a soliliquy by Joan Baez. The "SF Song" is absolutely enough to send chills down my back as i believe it is the clearest and most crisp Downies voice has ever been. Just wanted to know some other feeling dealing w/ this swtich for the group. Of course I will give Gordie 4 stars because he is the single most amazing man to ever create music of all time :lol:

I'm amazed by this album. It took me a long, long time to get into it, but it's my favourite CD right now...

Favourite tracks on this one are Neverending Present, Trick Rider, Bruised, Chancellor, and Irrelevance.

For me, CMG represents the perfect antidote for those times where I find myself "Hipped-out"...

It's taken a long time to sink in, but I will admit I had one of those "holy crap" moments (as in, "holy crap this is good!") when I went back and listened to it again recently...It's now survived 4 changeovers in my 5-cd carousel...

Btw...Blackflies is the one tune that grabs me everytime...

I still listen to it every once and awhile.
The song Canada Geese is very enjoyable.
But I really get the feel of GD stuff when I hear the live recordings.

Tis better than M@W, although I find all post-PP Downie too wordy and not melodic enough. Sometimes you can say more by saying less (e.g. all the FC lyrics), rather than trying to squeeze as many words out of a line as is possible, and then some.

I know most of you will be surprised with this, but I didn't like CMG at all. I'm huge huge hip fan, but that album doesn't even come close to the hip's work when they are together. CMG glow was just to wierd for me. I know gordie is an awsome song writer, but it's just not the same without the rest of the boys! Peace. GO HIP!!

What is really awesome is that Hip fans are getting 1 album per year now!

2000 - Music at Work
2001 - Coke Machine Glow
2002 - In Violet Light
2003 - Battle of The Nudes
2004 - probably the next Hip album

Finally, I just heard CMG for the first time. (getting ready for BOTN) I know..I am a slacker :oops:
I have to say that I do like it alot. It took some time for me to get used to Downie in a new sound but it is definitely very enjoyable. Chancellor is very catchy.
It makes me wonder how he performs these songs live? We are so used to seeing his outrageousness on stage. For those of you that have seen him on his solo gigs, how does he perform differently? Very mellow? Seems so foreign to me to have a chilled Downie on stage :lol:
