Long Time Running.

I had just finished high school and some friends and I jumped in my car and took a road trip across Canada to celebrate graduation. By the time we reached Ontario, Road Apples had completely taken over the tape deck. We played the shit out of it. One day we pulled over at a rest stop along Lake Superior, opened all the car doors and blasted "Long Time Running" as we sat beside the lake just starring out into the water. Road Apples is responsible for turning me into a full-fledged Hip fanatic. I still think of that amazing trip everytime I play it.

3 pistols - i spend my entire summers on canoe routes in ontario and between tom thompson's art and gord's rants about ontario's wilderness, pistols has to be my sentimental favorite.

"It's a Good Life If You Don't Weaken" because it got me through a very hard time in my life. In fact, when I met them in October I had GD sign those lyrics in my IVL CD booklet for me.

"You're Everywhere" also means alot because it was the first song played at my first hip show in October

AND...

"Goodnight Josephine" I really relate to the "character" Josephine because of how my life has been in the last year.

The Dire Wolf

I can't say that there is 1 event which makes The Dire Wolf appear in my mind, but for me, the first time I heard that song I knew I was listening to something special, and IVL was the album that launched me into the rabid Hip fan that I am now...I enjoyed their music prior to IVL, but that summer of 2002 brought something out in me, and Dire Wolf personifies that the most.
I think I'll play it right now...thanks!!

It's Nautical for me, just the first song that made me think about the structure of music and all the nuances of the band.

Although Goulet's story is almost identical to my Hip fandom in regards to the dire wolf

I love Dire Wolf. I remember when they played it at stage 13. I was right at the front, pressed against the railing. There was a gorgeous native girl named Summer standing beside me and she was getting punished so me being the kind soul I am let her stand between me and the railing. She was impressed that I knew the words, I was impressed she didn't say anything about the "roll of quarters" pressed into her back.

Two songs come to mind... Escape is at Hand, because it reminds me of the road trip I took to see the Hip play in a small club in Wantagh, NY (good times, and the trip totally fit the lyrics, except nobody died thank goodness)... and Fully Completely, for no specific reason, it just stirs in me a gut reaction that always makes me happy.
