Just got back from the USA - Douglas - 01-03-2005

What a friggin blast Grand Forks was! It was hard to believe we were in the States with all the Canadians around. Why do border guards have to be such assholes? Every time we went through my cousin got the 3rd degree becasue he had visited Poland. How dare he! That rink is amazing. Every seat is leather. They security guy said that Ralph Anglestead (built the rink) didn't like the quotes he was given for the marble floors he wanted so he went out and bought his own mountain and trucked it in himself.

Highlights:

The drunk guy in front of me shouting at John Garret and Steven Sobalski until they did the wave with us.

The deafening roar of "Go Jets Go" and the baffled looks on the faces of the Americans.

Chanting "Go Canada Go" at the TSN booth until the lady held up the Please Be Quiet sign and then chanting "Please be Quiet".

It was such a treat to watch this team. We better smoke those classless Russians.

I have to say the border issue goes both ways, my folks moved to Alaska at the beginning of the year and drove there in their motor home. When they crossed the border, the Canadian border guy confisticated ALL of their cat food for our 5 cats, simply because he said it was possible it could be infected with mad cow disease and they didnt compensate them for it.

My wife and I went to them here in Halifax in 2003. Standing in an arena 10,600 strong all wearing Canadian jerseys, waving Canadian flags and chanting GO CANADA GO is an amazing experience. Made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I urge anyone who has the chance to go to go.

I also had the same sensations and feelings when seeing Canada beat the USA in 1991 at Copps Coll. for the Canada Cup. Chanting "Gretzky Gretzky" at the end of the game when he came out as part of the team to accept the trophy.

Makes you proud to be Canadian. Big Grin

6-5 Russians....i hope crosby gets all 5 for the canadians. The future NHL will need a superstar player to make people care again.

Canada is the biggest Rival of the United States in hockey. After the Olympics I could never root for Canada.

I actually only have a slight passing interest in this tournament. I mean I slept through the US/Russia game. The Bills losing took alot out of me.....or maybe it was the tailgating at 7:45 am, who knows? We won this tournament last year and it got about 30 seconds of coverage in the states. No one cares about it.

Well I would have been more excited had I been able to see more than 3 games of the tournament. I havent even seen the Canadian or Czech teams play...2 of the more exciting teams. Thats why my excitement turned to only a passing interest. That and the all the bills excitement around here for the last week.
