Hmmmm. This gets me thinking of making up tickets for the Hip playing my living room when I get my new entertainment unit in May 2006. If anyone is interested, let me know. I can't guarantee they'll play, but you'll have a nice piece of paper.

me to. as i recall before the hip came back to kingston this summer they said they would never play in kingston again untill there was a suitable venue built there, hopefully they'll get their wish.

I was at the good ol' "M' Centre 2 nites ago watching my 4 year old niece play hockey (hilarious by the way). I decided to go for a walk around the building and see what all the fuss was about, since I hadn't been there for at least 10 years. Man it's in shambles! Last year at this time, the city spent a million dollars to re-do the roof, and the damn thing is still leaking!
I love living in Kingston, it is beautiful in many ways, particularly for it's historic attractions, but when your large venue entertainment centre is as old as Kingston Pen, it's pretty embarrassing.

Apparently the Mem Centre can't hold all their gear, as in the rafters aren't strong enough for the lighting rigs etc....and it's falling apart.
A friend of my father's was involved with trying to get the new arena downtown built, and "apparently" Gord S and Robby have been at city council meetings trying to lobby for it to be built. (I say apparently, because I wasn't there.)

lol, don't speak too soon, they were all ready to build a new arena here in Windsor about 2 years ago (after at least 10 years of talks) and plans crumbled all of a sudden... I can't remember why, but the Spits are still playing in 'The Barn' and I don't think anyone is expecting that to change for some time. haha

I'll be impressed if this barn is built before my first five year homecoming. I've found that if something makes sense don't necessarilly
a: expect Kingston City Council to be all for it
b: expect the majority of Kingston citizens to be all for it (I say majority because that's simply the view I get from the Kingston Whig Standard; I'm not simply being a jaded Queen's student)
I'm all for the continued improvement of the city of Kingston and I'm glad the Hip are too. I say bring on the new rink; bring on the development of block D; bring on the major reconstruction of Division and Montreal Streets (but ideally not at the same time)

Block D development issues
Groups like this are abundant in Kingston; and often have enough power to sway the vote away from any progressive development such as a new arena or Block D being something more than an expensive, abandoned piece of waterfront property.

Damn we've got a nice (relatively) new arena here in Guelph. What are the chances they'd ever come play here?!?!
