Was this game scheduled for St John's? If it was, it's kind of a slap in the face to folks on The Rock. Biggest game of their season so far, national TV, diehard fans: so let's move the game 1000Km's West and grab some of that T.O. cash!

Local economy coulda used the, albeit breif, boost.

I'm glad they're home. Go Leafs Go! They were orginally playing in Newmarket, so I can safely say they are back where they belong.

I'll be there, yes I'm sure had there been no lock out this game would be in NF, but seeing as there is a lock out, they brought it to Toronto, prolly to give season ticket holders a chance to see it. They have drawn 20,000 people for the 2 games, with more expected to walk up.

Should be fun, always nice to see hockey live no matter what league it is Wink

Watching it on TSN right now... good game so far, St. John's leading midway through the 3rd period. Colaiacavo (sp?) and Tellqvist look especially good right now.

That is the worst excuse ever...just because people in Hogtown are going without their (professional hockey...Jr.A, Jr. B, AHL right down the road) doesn't mean the people of St. John's should be screwed over. Shouldn't the million bucks paid in franchise fees every season at least mean that the big games be played at Mile One?

I didn't say it was a good excuse, I said it was probably a factor considering the amount of tickets they gave away, and the fact is they want to get interest in them for next year when they move the team to Toronto.

They are playing 2 of how many games on the sched. in Toronto, I'm sure there are plenty of other big games to be played, and hopefully TSN will carry them without that stupid hour tape delay. I'm happy I got to see a pro hockey game live this year. 1 of the 2 opportunities to see the best players currently playing in North America playing and I am damn happy.

If the Leafs gave back $100,000 for these 2 games would that make it fair. Sure it's not fair for the Rock to miss out on these games, but you know what it's not fair to the fans everywhere that millionare players and billionare owners are fighting over money, but that is life isn't it.

I'm willing to bet Binghamton isn't upset about it, it shortens their trip and they don't have to cross timezones. St. Johns is the only team left in the maritimes, and every road trip is a long trip and every time the Leafs need to call up one of their players, a lot of logistics is involved to get them from the Rock to where the Big team is playing in time for the games.

It was great hockey, actually much better than the NHL game, pace seemed faster, more end to end action. I liked the way the lines were set made for less offsides, i don't know if im a fan of the no touch, it improves safety but slows down the game, much more icings, and I for sure didn't like the decrease in goalie movement, it did nothing to open up the game, it merely made each team take longer to get the puck out of their zone.

I still don't like Telquist, everytime he tried to stop the puck it seems as if he was fighting it, first sens goal was weak, he got a piece of it, and should have had it all really, the second goal was strange, good hard work by the sens to bang in the puck.

The first leafs goal was a rocket of a shot, I can't remember the specifics of the other 2, and the 4th was an empty netter from the blue line to ice the game.

Great game, not one complaint about the action. About 8500 fans, about double the league average, they have sold about 12,000 for tonights game, I hope I'm able to catch some of it, in between my studying for the LSAT that I write tommorow.

I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for my comments, that's fine to each their own, but like I said I'm just happy to see live pro hockey. I still want to try to make it to a St Mikes game, or a Kitchener Rangers game if my sched allows, but I don't know if it will at this point, since I'm off coop and back for my last 2 terms of school in January

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I challenge any hockey fan to find a major difference between the AHL level of play and the NHL level of play. A pro scout should be able to tell the difference, but most of us certainly wouldn't. You can't convince me that some third liner in the AHL couldn't go to the NHL and do exactly what Trevor Linden does (which, is to say, NOTHING).

Sure, you'd notice the lack of a Forsberg, Iginla, Sundin and a couple of other elite players, but there are only a handful of those guys in the NHL anyway. But I happen to feel that the difference between the 100th best hockey player in the world and the 3000th best is something that the typical fan wouldn't notice, other than the name.

I probably watch about 150-200 NHL games a year (thanks to Centre Ice) and I've caught a couple of AHL games this year, and I was hard pressed to tell the difference. Nice plays, bad plays, smart plays, dumb plays, great saves, bad goals....it all looked the same to me.

I find it amazing that the CBC isn't showing AHL games on Saturday night. I think many of us would be happy to watch. With a five week old baby at home, I know I would be! :lol:

I agree I would watch....the only difference I notice between the 2 leagues is the AHL has much more open ice.....

So this is what we've been reduced to, jabbing about junior hockey, I never thought this day would come, but now that its here I guess I have to embrace it, Ive always been a fan of junior hockey in this country I think its great, but not to this degree. I have to say though the hockey is pretty good and Im enjoying some of the AHL and OHL games, mind you I still would rather watch the NHL, and it would be nice if they could beam in some Europen hockey, seeing as how most of the pros are there, Im sure its entertaining enough for tv. So in the spirit of this thread I have to yell Go Bulldogs! Go Hamilton! (habs farm team) also Go Knights! There a big thing here in London which is great considering a few years back they were the worst team in CHL history I think they went 3-60-3, that was absolutely terrible! But our Knights are poised for greatness this year, I hope they shatter that CHL record of 29 games undefeated. I say lets get out and support junior hockey, Im sure most of you do, but until the NHL gets back on track, which may be awhile, Ill be going to more Knights games and maybe make a trek up to the Hammer to see some future Habs, that and playing NHL2K5 for my Xbox. :wink:
