A good stragedy for upcoming Copps shows.... - the_wheat_king - 11-03-2002
Am I right or wrong here:
The last holiday shows in toronto (dec. 31/99 and jan. 1/00) were both sold out right?
Now the upcoming shows at Copps are not sold out yet but are they waiting for both shows to sell out or almost sell out before they announce the special guests???
If, (for example), one of the guests include OLP or BNL and they were announced at the start with the hip, I think the stands would be filled with half hip fans and half OLP or BNL fans. But are the hip trying to sell most or all the seats before they announce the guests so the stands would be full of Hip fans?
Someone please tell me if they've tried this stragedy before because I just figured this out now myself.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great idea....I'm just wondering

default and sam roberts are opening up for the two shows .. so i dont think it was anykind of strategy at all ...

and to the many fans who have bought tix already, they don't know who the guests are yet or have a clue who it is. They just know it's the hip for now and that's why the seats are filling up with Hip fans like myself.

lord, am i ever glad default aren't opening. what an awful band. the hip know better, thankfully (although i'm still not sure why the watchmen opened so many shows this summer. i like their music, but they're an apathetic live act). as for this theory of yours, wheat king, it's interesting but i don't think we need to worry too much about swarms of sarah harmer and sam roberts fans buying up seats.

Does anyone know the actual time that the Hip will go on, and what time the show will be done?

Going by experience to many hip shows (9 of them) I would say sometime around 9 pm seems to be the standard.... but I cannot confirm that. I always try to be in my seats just before 9.

9 are you insane? they're gonna ring in the new year, that does not intale a 3 1/2 hour setlist, i'd imagine, 10:30. and from the toronto show in 99, who didn't love the 12:00 blackout, with unplucked in the background, i hope there's gonna be somethin clever this year!

I have a question regarding Copps, how do they feel about photography? How about the hip? If allowed, I will be shooting from second row. What about flashes? The last thing I want to do is flash the hell out of the guys! What have your techniques been in the past? What produces the best results? Thanks for your help! See you on the 31st!

My cousin works at Copps and she told me that the employees who are working the Hip show (the New Year's concert) have been told that the concert will be over before midnight. I seriously hope she is wrong ~ but I thought since you are all on the topic I'd let you know.

Well, I hope your wrong too! I'm going on the 30th, but I would almost bet that they'll be ringing in the new year, even if they don't I'm sure they'll be excited to get back after a little break and put on two fantastic shows, a little bit longer setlist than the usual 17 songs, 3 encore that has been most popular this tour! Anyways, can't wait. I'd much rather be there on NYE but both shows are gonna rock. Anybody think they'll play Forest Edge, Problem Bears or Ultra Mundane?
