Are there any decent underground/bootleg record stores left in your 'hood?

With the advent of online trading and bootleg rings, it seems impossible to find bootlegs at indie record stores anymore.

We've got a few cool shops left in Ottawa, but you're more likely to find "Yanni At The Acropolis" than anything bootleg, especially Hip.

There used to be a great one at the Four Corners in Brampton, (Where I landed my first "Roxy and Elsewhere" disc) but I was sad to find it's now gone too.

Are there any spots left with "import" or "live and unreleased" sections?

Can't help you out but I first got into bootlegs back around 1987 or 1988 when I bought two Cult bootleg tapes from a head shop in Regina. It's too bad I mistreated my tapes so badly because they were fantastic shows that I'd love to have on CD now.

ahhh the memories, use to spend hours in there.

i know a couple of shops in toronto that sell the boots along with a couple of stores in guelph.

maybe he had both stores going because i remember going there when i was a teen. i thought he closed the brampton store in the early 90's, if you ever go in there ask the guy, i would be curious to find out.

There was this place in Barrie my friends used to go to when they wanted Pearl Jam boots. I can't for the life of me remember what it's called.

Turk's in downtown Kingston has a few bootlegs in its used cd section. Not that any of us would buy such a thing anymore.

There's a great store here in Cowtown called "Recordland" which has an incredible selection of used CDs and vinyl. They're also the only place in town where you can still find decent bootlegs. Last time I was there they had a pretty good selection of live Hip, including Roxy & Elsewhere, Glastonbury & Elsewhere, Woodstock '99, and a couple others. Most of them were selling for about $20, which isn't bad considering I've seen the same boots for sale at other stores for upwards of $50.

Yeah that's the spot! Awesome, I wasn't aware he moved, thanks for that. IIRC the dude had the "comic book store guy" appeal down to a "T."

Sorry if this is a really obvious question, but why do you care? I mean, why would you want to pay for bootlegs?

For the record, we have Taz here, and half the store is bootlegs and the other half is vinyl, but Taz himself is so notorious an asshole most of my friends refuse to shop there. I spent $30 on my first Hip boot, and it was the UNCORRECTED version of the Bill's Bar show. Asshole.

I thought these places were not alloowed to sell boots, if they were contacted by personal of the certin band......(?)
Because i know 'the beat goes on' use to sell a ton of hip boots, but they got in crap, and were not allowed to sell any more boots......

And on a side note! Selling is bad, is it not!!! Smile

I mean there are tons of people on these boreds that will help out with B&P's, and etc.......

There's a small indie business that shows up at my university twice a year to sell used cd's for much higher than they should. They also sell concert videos and such. They had a number of bootlegged VHS tapes of the Hip's New Year's Eve show in 2000 I think it was at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton. I didn't buy one though, they were selling them for like $20!!

we have something similar that stops in town every September around my birthday at the Holiday Inn. part of the price of admission goes to charity, and they sell cheap pizza and pop and they have lots of sweet boots, vids, t shirts memorabilia ect. but it's not as cool as it used to be. when i first started going you could buy the actual boots, but now everyone just sells burnt cd's, but for the same price that they used to sell the original copies. those bastards. oh well, they have dvd's now, and that's cool. i've snagged some sweet smashing pumpkins shit over the years.
