“THE BEST BAND IN THE LAND”, THE TRAGICALLY HIP, ROCKS THE NATION’S CAPITAL AT THE 92ND GREY CUP GAME

Toronto, Canada (October 22, 2004) –The Canadian Football League (CFL) today announced that the “greatest band in the land”, Canada’s own The Tragically Hip will take centre field at the 92nd Grey Cup Halftime Show in the Nation’s Capital.

The critically acclaimed The Tragically Hip have been at the heart of the Canadian music scene for two decades evoking an emotional connection between the artists, their music and their fans that remains unrivaled in this country. The five-piece group of friends who grew up down the road in Kingston, Ontario, The Hip has achieved the enviable status of beloved band - one that enjoys both mass popularity with over 6 million albums sold in Canada and 11 Juno Awards.

Their newest release, In Between Evolution, is the sixth Hip record to debut at the #1 chart position, following fan favourites Day For Night (1994), Trouble At The Henhouse (1996), Live Between Us (1997), Phantom Power (1998) and Music @ Work (2000). During this year’s Grey Cup Halftime Show, CFL fans will be on their feet in the stands and in front of their TV sets for one of Canada’s hardest-working and hardest-rocking bands.

Staging of the Opening Ceremonies, the National Anthem and Halftime Show are being produced by House of Blues Concerts Canada.

A couple dumb questions from a non-CFL fan...

When is the Grey Cup? How long does the half-time band usually play for? Do they usually air the whole performance on tv?

That's great news. Wonder what songs they'll play. Hopefully not Vaccination Scar. I haven't seen it live yet but of the live audio and video I've seen of the song, it doesn't impress me that much. It doesn't sound too cohesive to me but maybe I'll change my mind after seeing it live.

WHAT SONG(S) SHOULD THE HIP PLAY AT THE GREY CUP?

I say 'Makeshift.' Entirely applicable to the CFL, as a league, as well as a kick-ass song. Follow up: 'Are We Family.'

there goes any hope of an after party in saskatoon(that i was somehow, someway going to try and get in) as they play there the night before...good on them though....real nice exposure :thumb:

So the entire entertainment aspect of the Grey Cup is being produced by House of Blues Canada, including the National Anthem. Should we expect another fine redition of this great lands anthem by Gord Downie? And this will be the third time out of four the Hip are schedlued to play in Ottawa. Is that a record? Have the Hip ever played Toronto four times in one year? Just curious is all, though it should be mentioned that The Capital City Music Hall (impossible to get into) and the Grey Cup appearance (I'm not paying $200 for one Hip song) hardly constitute as a show...
