Stephen King wrote a book called The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, I believe it was about a girl who got lost in the woods and kept her sanity by listening to Red Sox games??

Basically. Yes, she's if I remember correctly, 12 years old. She goes hiking with her brother and mom and she gets lost in the woods and she is wearing a Red Sox cap and a Red Sox shirt that says "Gordon" on the back with his number.
She just loves Tom Gordon. She thinks he's handsome and just wonderful. He actually appears to her in the woods, a hallucination of course, but between that and listening Red Sox games at night and a few other things, she braves the woods.
It's a very easy read, I only just read it this summer. I'm a huge King fan who is very behind in her reading. It was a great book. I highly reccomend it to anyone wanting to get into his work. Then I'd follow it up with MISERY:-)

A little trivia fact for you all - Tom Gordon's nickname is not Flash because of the comic book character, but because he had five kids from five different women by the age of 22! Rob Ducey's dad told me that one.

And keeping with that theme, the old Wrestler and Cyndi Lauper video star Roddy Piper was known as "Hot Rod" because he had eight kids... I guess sexual related nicknames are better than lack-of-sex related nick names... actually, I don't guess. I know.
