In Bobcaygeon - akoso - 10-04-2004

Honestly, who posts the setlists on thehip.com? I think I've seen "Bobcaygeon" written as "In Bobcaygeon" about half the time. I heard this mistake was made on the free Labatt CDs, but making a mistake like this (multiple times) on the band's official website is a bit different. What's next? "When New Orleans was-a Sinkin"?

I've heard a show where GD introduces it saying, "this song is called "in bobcaygeon."

I don't think it's a "big deal." But the song is not called "In Bobcaygeon."
I found it on the Labatt CD and thought some ignorant ass made that mistake
but now it's on the Hip site with the "In" before it so I don't know anymore.
Maybe it's a sign of the apocalypse or something.
But I'm not going to file a report or send some hate-o-grams to the suits.
I'll play the "neutral dude" on this one.

im gonna go ahead and OFFICIALLY say that the song is now called: IN BOBCAYGEON for these reasons:

1. Listing on promotional CD
2. Listing on Setlists from thehip.com
3. THE LEAD SINGER WHO WROTE THE SONG HAS CALLED IT THAT FOR A LONG TIME NOW!

so i guess thats the end of this discussion which has happened way to many times on this board.

Maybe it's just because so many people used to write Bob Caygeon, thinking it was a person. I have seen articles and radio DJs get it wrong, either printing or pronouncing it like two distinct words.

Haha, that's interesting. I never thought about that, but I guess it would be an understandable mistake for a casual fan or non-fan to make, without actually listening to the lyrics of course.

Apparently some people here aren't too keen to picking up on small mistakes. I'll buy the "Maybe it's just because so many people used to write Bob Caygeon, thinking it was a person." excuse... that actually makes sense, but I'm not supporting the "official title change".

My beef isn't so much that the song is written incorrectly on the website. My problem is that half the time it's written properly (Bobcaygeon) and half the time it's written incorrectly (In Bobcaygeon). I know Gord likes to rename songs live or say what they're about, even though it's way off base, but I think listing the name of a song on your website is different... and if you are going to list it incorrectly, then at least always list it incorrectly... it's the inconsistency that gets me.

Anyway, you guys are right... it's not a big deal... but that doesn't mean it's not worth discussing.

My gf was visiting her sister in Peterborough this past weekend and called me all excited because she went shopping in Bobcaygeon, the small town very near there, the one Gordie named the song after. This post has nothing to do with whether the song is called In Bobcaygeon or Bobcaygeon, but somewhat relevant I suppose.

Here's another angle to consider: perhaps the song was originally titled "In Bobcaygeon" but was somehow mis-printed on the original commercial release. Stranger things have happened.

Story has it that when UA was preparing to release ELO's second album a record-exec left written instructions for his secretary to call the band and find out the intended title; the printers were waiting to finish the artwork and go into production so they needed to know right away.

The secretary called Jeff Lynne several times but no one was home. She hastily scrawled "no answer" on her bosses message and went to lunch. The boss returned to the office, saw the note, and called the printer.

The album was released as "No Answer" which had absolutely nothing to do with the record's content or the artwork, a close-up picture of a light-bulb on a hardwood floor.

I find it weird that all of a sudden it says "IN Bobcaygeon" however, won't we always call it just "Bobcaygeon"? Do those two letters really make a difference?
