I took this from a seperate thread , sorry I don't know your name cferneyh, but I thought the possibility of it deserves a thread. My first reaction to it is...Cringe** God, I hope not!! There's no way it can do them justice. Maybe it will help expose people to some of their songs. Hate the idea of a cash grab for the record execs. I really dislike the idea of it, just let the music stand up for what it is, each album individually. Just seems like falling in line like 90% of the other bands out there..Anyone else heard anything about this ? Are people in favor of it ? It must be typo in the store, they wouldn't release a greates hits along with IBE, wouldn't make sense.

Not much that has happened leading up to, and after the release of IBE has made sense. :?
So I wouldn't be surprised if a Best Of... shows up on store shelves in time for the Christmas rush.

Greatest hits huh? Its gonna be difficult to cram 10 albums on one or two CD's!

I was thinking quite the contrary. If they were to release a Greatest Hits CD here in the States, It'd have to be blank.

I first saw this placecard when I bought my copy of IBE. I didn't think much of it at the time (was too excited to have IBE in my hands) but now that it has been there for a couple of months I've got to believe it is there for a reason. The other week someone posted a link to an interview with the Hip's new manager and he made a comment or two about mapping out a long term strategy for the band, which in my mind was a business-term for "most bang for the buck". Putting two and two together leads me to believe that this greatest "hits" CD has been in the works for a bit, is going to be released around the time of the Canadian tour (just in time for Christmas) and is going to be accompanied by the long awaited DVD. Just makes good business sense. And sure, the Hip aren't in the business of gouging their fans, but that doesn't mean their management company and/or their record company isn't.......

I hope to god it's not a Hits album. A Best Of, MAYBE, might be acceptable, but a Hits album would be a complete waste of material. Everybody knows their best stuff was never released.

not a chance...I have all their unreleased stuff. Unless there's something that hasn't even made the rounds in the bootlegging community, and even then I would probably just download the extras.
I might, however, buy a Best Of...I always find they have much better tracklists than incredibly predictable Hits albums.

I think most people -- and I know this is me for sure -- would purchase pretty much ANY CD with their name on it. Just because we're that obsessed. But I mean obsessed... in a good way?

Yep. I agree. Whether it had unreleased or new stuff on it or not, I'd still buy it to add to the collection... who wouldn't?

I'd only buy a greatest hits or best of album if it had some unreleased material or interviews with the band, like Jethro Tull did when they re-released Aqualung and Thick as a Brick. What's the point of buying an album of songs you already have and know by heart? Unless they did something really snazzy to the songs like re-mastered them or something its a waste of money for the hard core fan. For getting casual fans into the more obscure songs, its a good thing for the record company to release a Best Of album. My two cents
