Top Hip Album Closers (2 songs) - akoso - 08-09-2004
What do you guys think are the best 2 songs to close out an album with (with which to close out an album, I know, I know... it sounds dumb though)?

I am very close to saying that Escape and Emperor Penguin are my favourite album closers. Dire Wolf and Dark Canuck make me hesitate, but I'm sticking with the PP duo, because they are both strong songs on their own, whereas I think Dire Wolf really does all the work for the IVL combo.
I have been quite confident in feeling this way for a while until a damn lil' album named IBE came along. I still give the edge to the PP closers, but I love Are We Family and Josephine still continues to grow on me.

I have to agree with akoso, Family and Joe has been playing nonstop on my cd player and in my head :thumb: :jump

I voted for Sherpa/Put it off cause the combo works great and Put it Off is just so damn good.
I could have just as easily gone with the Dire Wolf/Dark Canuck combo though but I feel that TATH is under rated and must be represented whenever possible.

close call for me bewtween dire wold/dark canuck, and family/joe, I picked the latter.
I do love how the end of Canuck goes on and on and on... Very cool!

Before I voted, I had to think about wether to go with the closers for PP or IVL.
To me, those two endings take it hands down... seems the numbers bare that out as well.

As much as I'll stand beside my opinion that M@W sucked bigtime, I'm gonna say "As I Wind Down The Pines" is probably the best album closer. That song is the greatest! I'm gonna go listen to that....

I'm gonna go listen to that....I agree that's a great (and underrated) tune... but I don't think it's as good as some of the other album closers and The Bear really drags those two tracks down when compared as a pair.

That was difficult......could have picked Dire Wolf/Canuck...could have been Esape/Pinguin...but i went with Another midnight/Opiated. Another midnight still gives me goosebumps all over (all over? Yes...ALL over!!
).

I went with the IVL duo...Dire Wolf is just otherworldly and the Dark Canuck in all its complexity kicks ass, what a song to end on... i wish theyd close some concerts on it

I was all set to vote for the Escape/Penguin duo but the new twosome beat it out. I can't believe Are We Family is making the Emporer take a back seat for me!

Escape and Emperor Penguin are definitely their best one/two punch to close an album, and in my opinion, two of their best songs ever!

I agreed with Beat, even though the new album has great closers, Family is a good song but not a brilliant one. I find it a little simple, so I had ot go with Midnight-Opiated. The lyrics to Another Midnight are among my favourite ever.

Interesting... PP and IVL make up over half of the votes and PP + IVL + IBE = 72% of the votes.
So 3/4 of the votes are for those 3 albums. I thought it would end up that way, but I thought that the RA combo would make a better run. Although, maybe a lot of people consider that combo great, but not good enough to surpass PP, IVL or IBE. I wonder if a poll was done to see what everyone's second favourite duo is (not allowed to have the same vote as here) if RA would do better.
