The Hip play private show featuring cover tunes! - Stephen Dame - 08-03-2004

Our buddy, and charter member of the Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir, "lilproud" was lucky enough to see the Hip and Sarah Harmer play a private gig recently. The boys apparently broke out cover tunes and everything! He mentioned this over in the Non Hip forum, but I figured it deserved a mention here... as I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be willing to cut off an apendage to hear this... or maybe even just a few more details! :jump

It was at the Treasure Island boat club outside Kingston, on Saturday.
It was a surprise B-Day bash for Paul Langois. We all basically lied to him for weeks before. He didn't have a clue it was going to happen.
Sarah Harmer also performed. We opened the night with a set laced with a couple of fun covers. Actually Paul's wife sang some heartfelt songs for her hubby, and the Hip's acountant ripped it up with some southern-inflicted rock tunes.
I only remember the Hip playing old songs from days before Paul was in the band. Paul joking added that they sounded "A little too good without him", which everyone fund funny. I'll ask Paul what other songs they covered, but all I recall "In My Life" by the Beatles was gorgeous interpreted.
Andy Maize (Skydiggers) and Luther Wright were also in attendance. There was probably about 150 people there.
There were a couple of people there with some serious video recording gear...

Sorry, i could've been more descript...our band is the Hugh Dillon redemption Choir. Paul is producing our first album. I'm with him and the rest of the band (HDRC)at the Bathouse right now.
I'll find out all that i can about the tape of the show. The sound in there was amazing.

They used to have great links to fansites that were more caringly consturcted than the band's own back in the Henhouse-Phantom days...there was a link to my live show photos page. I wish they'd bring it back. Not so much for my own gratification, but before I was a member of the Hipbase many moons ago it was great to have a convenient list of good fansites!
