Is anybody else goin' to check out the legendary Dickey Betts (of Allman Brothers fame) for FREE on Saturday August 14th?
Show starts at 5:30 pm with 2 opening bands and ends at 10 pm...
After the Betts' show, we may be headin' to Alternative Brews to check out a great band from Corning, NY called the Brainbell Janglers.

If anybody is going, and if you'd like to party beforehand at my buddy's place across the street from the park, let me know! Him and his wife are having a little gathering. Food will be supplied, but BYOB...

Dickey Betts, a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, has one of the most distinctive voices in music today. Known as one of the most influential guitar players of all time, Betts has mastered a seamless style of lyrical melody and rhythm -- marrying country, jazz, blues, and rock into one unparalleled sound. The New York Times has called Betts "one of the great rock guitarists…[who thinks like a jazz improviser, in thoughtfully structured, cleanly articulated, intelligently paced phrases…[when] Mr. Betts was tearing into one of his improvisations, the music was about as exciting as rock and roll gets."

Playing since he can remember, Betts joined several bands in the sixties and eventually formed a band with bassist Berry Oakley. One fateful night in 1969, Betts and Oakley's band jammed with another local group featuring Duane and Gregg Allman, marking the birth of the Allman Brothers Band.

In addition to matching band leader Duane Allman lick for lick, Betts also wrote such memorable songs as "Revival" and the instrumental tour de force "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed." After Duane Allman and Berry Oakley were killed in accidents a year apart in 1971 and 1972, the ABB worked through their sorrow, with Betts writing and singing the group's biggest hit, "Ramblin' Man".


The Canal Concert Series is Western New York's largest free waterfront concert series. Each concert is 100% free to attend for all ages! You're gonna check out the Donnas and not Dickey Betts?! Yikes! hock: lol j/k

Be sure to go early and check out one of the opening bands that night, Silvertide!
I caught them when they opened for Velvet Revolver in Toronto and Van Halen in Buffalo. I highly recommend checkin' them out!

P.S. Put on the Allman's Live at the Fillmore East if you need any convincing to check out the Dickey Betts show... :thumb:

I know Fillmore is supposed to be the crowning glory of their career...but I have heard a lot of bootlegs I like better. My favourite live album is called "First Set" ... no doubt that Fillmore is a great live album, awesome for the car, but on the whole I think they've had better shows.

I would LOVE to be there for this...but it's a bit of a drive...like 1,400 km... Anybody who goes, feel free to review it!!
