Hipbase Records?? -
direwolf74 - 07-26-2004
Seeing as though the Hip have been screwed over once again by their American label (Rounder), I was thinking we Hipbasers should start up our own label, sign the band to a contract, and give them the kind promotion in the U.S. that they've always deserved. Anyone up for it?? I'm reading David Geffen's biography right now, and I was thinking we could use it as kind of a blueprint. C'mon, it'll be easy!

I'll be Johnny's personal assistant.
I've already filled out the application... It had a lot of explative's in it, and the only thing under "applicant will be expected to" section was:
"Score Me Broads."
I hope he picks me!

 I'll do all the negotiating... i.e. slapping around record-store owners, slapping around MTV, slapping around young American fans who don't get it, slapping around the FCC, slapping around the music-pirates, slapping around other bands that hold the Hip back from #1 and working out the payments to make sure the Hip don't get royally screwed... yeah, I wanna do eveything except that last one....
(what else do you expect from me after my 500TH POST? whoo!)

I was thinking something very similar today. Many other bands have great fan organizations - digital street teams, etc. We should get something going for The Hip. An official fanclub along the lines of DMB or PJ.
Let's make it happen.

Yeah, man, that sounds a little more like a realistic approach. I doubt very much the Hip would sign on to a record label run by fans or anything. Cool thought though. They could strike off on their own, they probably know a lot about marketing and stuff. But the digital street team sounds like a good idea.
I mean, there is no reason why we can't help promote the Hip. I got a creative edge. Even if we do something as ridiculously simple as posting flyers around on telephone poles telling people of upcoming shows and performances, i'd be down for that. But tell me, what the hell is a "digital street team"? I've never heard that before... seriously.
Chris, if you are serious about this, I'm officially signing my name to your cause. We could also call ourselves something cool like "The Dire Wolves" or "Comrades In The (Inter)national
Hipness Program"...

Ooohh, I'll help! I also have press contacts, I used to be a reporter. I'm good at marketing. I've got a big mouth, I can spread the word! I can make media kits and take photographs for promotional reasons. I can also keep the groupies in check! hehe...
