Having been to see the boys numerous times and on both sides of the border, I've noticed a difference between American Hip Heads and Canadian Hip Heads.

No, it doesn't have to do with "Eh's" or what they drink, it has to do with Mr. Baker.

Now, perhaps it's because in the States you've had a few famous Robert's: Kennedy, Frost etc... and because here in Canada we love our Bobby's: Orr and Borden (PM on the $100 bill, "it's all about the Bob's.")

But I've noticed that Yanks call the long haired wonder: Robbie, while Canucks call him: Bobby.

Hmmmm... I blame the school systems.

I have called him both names....not sure which one I use more, whatever comes to mind that day, I guess Tongue

Although..I believe I use Rob not Robbie..I always wonder why adult people put the ie or y on the end of their names...sounds too much like grade school to me... I used to be Jenny, now I go by Jen...have had a hard time breaking my old friends from it :? Tongue

Also, my husband cringes everytime someone calls him Billy instead of Bill.

Anyway....

Me too. Although, I tend to call him Robby more often than the other. I've noticed that in most of the CD jackets, he's just listed as "Rob".

I asked him which he prefers, and he said whatever. Rob, Robbie, Bobby. As my son is named Robbie, I introduced them one day, Robbie Baker thought it was just fine that I call him Robbie. But now my nine year old wants to be called Robert! Go figure!

I noticed when I was in States the the Hip fans at the show were calling them T-HIP, when everyone I know in Canada just calls them the HIP.

This is interesting. I noticed I call him Bobby, but it is because when I first got into the Hip and was trying to find out their names, someone had told me or I had read somewhere that it was Bobby. So maybe it all depends on where ya get your info. For the record, my middle name is Robert...

And Stephen, you forgot Bob McKenzie!!

i call him bobby........and he calls me.........well he doesn't call me anything.

in the buffalo area..........they are the hip.
when i have had one to many beers i call myself tragically gip.
or as my first name is phil and my nickname is phipps i use
tragically phipps.

I call him Rob and I call Gord Sinclair 'Sinclair'.

It's amazing how many different names Rob has yet we don't call Johnny 'John' or the Gords 'Gordie'

CHOM out of Montreal sometimes calls them the "T Hip", that would be how I got my screen name! I just call them "the Hip"

BTW, I've heard them say Johnny was in grade 13, is that a joke because he failed his senior year, which is the 12th grade here or do you count kindergarten as grade 1?

In Ontario, we used to have grade 13, or your OAC (Ontario Academic Credits). It was eliminated a few years ago and now Ontario just has grade 1-12. So it was no joke, most people prior to 2002 had to take grade 13 (OAC).
