My Interview with the Tragically after the Edge -
macyme - 06-29-2004
Well i've never met the boys and was dissapointed when i heard they were going to be at the edge at 2:30 as i had a meeting a 2, when i got back to my desk at 3:15 i checked out the hipbase and found out they were now going to be there at 3:30. I figured i had a 15 minute coffee break coming my way, so i headed up the road and couldn't believe there were only about 20 people there. I didn't have anything for them to sign so i headed across the road and picked me up a throw-away camera. Got back and listened to the interview of bookie talking to gord, gord and paul (this was the closest i had ever been to the boys only about 7 or 8 feet away) Did notice that bookie try to burn gord downie about wearing the same jacket as last week
After the interview was done I started to talk to Gord Sinclair, He was so down to earth and easy to talk to. I asked him several questions, from what i can remember here they are
1. Are the hip going to release their shows and sell them just like gord had down.
GS - he said they are in the works of finding out information about the best technology, and the best way to go about it, they're very interested in the idea (i got the impression that they want to do it but if they are still at the research stage right now and this might not be happening for this tour)
2. when are you guys going to release a dvd, your live stuff is awesome and i know many people are dying for a live dvd show.
GS- Where really into this, and we are well beyond the talking stage on this one, just trying to determine the right venue, location, timing. (Sounded like this was definite go and that they were probably going to record something on this tour. my personal opinion is that they will probably record something this tour and probably release it next year...once again just my opinion.)
3. Are you guys playing in houston at the allstar game.
GS- no, but gord is going down to do some stuff
4. Are you guys ever going to re-release any older hip (especially TATH) on vinyl like you did with DFN, and is IBE going to be available on vinyl.
GS- He said that he couldn't see it happening and that they don't record much on vinly in Canada and that it's mostly over in Europe.
5. How do you guys keep up this lifestyle with having families
GS - (jokingly says) wife wants me out of the house now, says i've been at home for to long.
6. Finally have you heard of the hipbase
GS, No
It's a web page with a chat fo....
GS, oh yeah i've heard of it
You should check it out sometime, lots of great info there
Asked Paul how he liked playing the small gigs again and if gord had messed up some of the lyrics in the calgary show
PL - it's great playing the small shows and i don't remember gord missing to many lyrics
Then I grabbed a picture with Gord Sinclair, and then got one with Gord Downie before him and the boys took off in a blue jetta
Man was i pumped, safe to say the rest of the day at work was a right off.

Never heard of the Hipbase, c'mon now, you know they've searched the web out of curiosity once or twice! They know of it, just doubt with how busy they are that they actually stop to really browse around.
Nice job interviewing, those were some of the things I'm sure we're all interested in, live shows, live DVD, etc. I feel much better about the possibility of a DVD now! I betcha they'll tape one in TO at the end of the tour. Just some wishful thinking.

Nice work! Great questions. You should have done the real interview instead of Bookman... "Duhhhhh, are you guys gonna do a video for Vaccination Scar?"

Nice! Kudos on the Questions. It is nice to get some of the answers that we are all looking for. Good job.

I wholeheartedly agree. Bookie was terrible, and I fear what may come out of his mouth at the Mod Club tonight.

Hey Macyme...you must've met my buddy Grant. I got home last night and had a message on my phone "Holy Shit, I just met Gord Downie and there was only 20 people there". He said he talked to him awhile about the 11th fret video(where the hell is that) that he was in. Gord D remembered him. Then he gave him a flyer for his Sunday Night Live skit group.

Ya I would probably would recongnize him, there weren't many people there. Some people watched the interview and were saying who are these guys.....i looked over and shook my head. BTW the boys didn't seemed interested at all in bookie's dumb questions, man is bookie one funny looking dude, now i can see why he's on the radio and not on tv.

Were you the dude that came in just before it started and stood by the door? You had glasses I think. I was there and was the first to hand Gord D something. It was a completely done up DVD of the Molson Park Barrie show from September 2003. Nice colour case, Insert with setlist and write-up + a cover on the DVD itself... he looked at to sign and I said "no this is for you..... I really enjoyed the show in Barrie and a few of us put this together.... thought you'd like a copy....." ...GORD: "Thanks this is pretty decent" Pat on the shoulder and he used it as a mini table to sign everyone's stuff....
Poor interview but ccol to drop by and see them for a few minutes!
DVD in hand...
