Absolutely superb album. Any other Matt Good fans around here? I don't suppose I'd get shot for saying so.. For some reason people really love to hate that guy.

i picked up the album last night. very raw sound. i love it even though he hates the U.S.A.

I liked him with the band better than solo...but that's just me.

Ottawa Citizen said the album was good, but the tunes don't lend themselves to a live rock show. They kinda panned his Ottawa performances (*Paging Shannon... Smile*) but hinted that the poor crowd response was due to the fact that many of the songs were unknown to the crowd.

They even quoted Good as saying "you guys are pretty tame for an Ottawa crowd."

Yeah the Ottawa crowd for night one SUCKED! But also, he played about 80% new material -- before the album cam eut. The second night, he played more old stuff, the new stuff sounded more familiar, and the show was about 4000% better. you could tell the new stuff was good, but his songs are hard to follow the first time around, so a lot of people just didnt' know when they were starting and stopping. But.... the second night was AWESOME. Even matt seemed to be enjoyign himself more.

As for the album, I LOVE it. Seriously. I've listened to it about 12 times in two days. Blue Skies over Bad Lands BLOWS MY MIND.

He's all right. I don't like him too much and wouldn't pay for any of his albums but I can see why people like him. I don't really see the difference between Matthew Good BAND and Matthew Good though? I mean, I like the fact that some Hip fans hate Gord's solo work (not me though). It means that the music is different. Gord could have just hired other more mainstream rock musicians and had similar songs to the Hip but the similarities are few and far between.

I actually think it's cool that Hip fans like Matt Good's music because there are so many fans that hate him just because he said a few bad things about the Hip. Hey, if the music is good then the music is good.

I never really got into him. He's a pretty good songwriter and I like some of his stuff, but overall he just doesn't do it for me.

He didn't so much "go solo" as the band he was with broke up. The guitarist from teh mgb left the group... he already wrote the majority of the stuff anyway, so I would think it would sound pretty much the same.

I've tried to hate him for saying mean things about the hip (I don't even know what he said tho) but I just can't -- he's too good! Smile

In an interview, he said he was a fan of Gord's solo stuff, so that should count for something.

I've been a fan of his music for a long time, and have all his albums; however I've consistently disagreed with the way he uses his celebrity to promote his own ideals. And I get the impression he's kind of a jerk to be around... which might help to explain why he's a solo artist now.

In another interview I read, he called Gord an "amazing writer". In the same interview, he dissed at least three bands: OLP (who he hates with a passion), Nickelback (who he hates even more than OLP), and the Hip. However, he did clarify that his only problem with the Hip is that they end every song with a guitar solo...which tells me that he's never really listened to a lot of their music. In Violet Light for example only has one song that ends with a solo (The Darkest One).
