Favourite Simpson's moment - Stephen Dame - 06-15-2004

Great story in the Post today about the cultural impact and evolution of The Simpsons. The 4th season comes out on DVD today, including Conan O'Brien's time at the top, and some of the better known episodes: Pepe, Monorail, Bart and the girl next door: "Two Guys from Kabul"

For me, the best moment from the show isn't so much a funny one, but a touching one.

In the episode where Homer meets and then loses his mother, the show ends with Homer sitting on the trunk of his car and starring at the stars... knowing he'll never see her again. As the credits roll, a shooting star flashes across the screen while good 'ol Homer sits with his feet dangling: sad and reminicent.

That's one of the most heartfelt moments I've ever seen on TV, let alone a cartoon. In great part because we've come to love the character so much.

So, what's your favourite Simpsons moment?

"I'm from Canada, so they think I'm slow, eh."

-little kid in Bart's special needs class.

for me, its got to be the halloween episode where bart and homer stumble into the 3D world. Seeing homer walk down the street with real humans was cool!

"Krusty Clown College...."

The blind guy who takes Bart's dog, gets busted with pot and all the cops and their girlfriends arrive and "Jammin" by Bob Marley starts playing.

Hands down, my favorite has to be the "Waiting is the hardest part" scene from the NRA episode, where Homer is sitting on his front lawn lamenting the fact he has to wait two weeks to get his gun..."But I'm angry NOW!"...(with Tom Petty as a soundtrack)...

Everything from Patty & Selma, to Ned on a riding mower to a family of ducks go by and Homer's frustration grows...

I must say, being a huge fan, any episode (except a few from season 1) are the best. I pee laughing at every one. A few of my favorite characters though:

Uder - would you like a lick of my Joy-Joys?
Martin - Anything this kid says is so demented and twisted - these writers are pure genius
Willy - Love the Scotish
The other guy Willy gets in a fight with (his cousin, I think. His name eludes me)
The Leprechaun
Homer - The Mr Sparkle episode cracks me up everytime. Awwww Misto Sparkle! (In my best Japanese accent)
Ned - His "girl"-scream is the best
many, many more...

Speaking of, does anyone know about the episode where Homer does something so stupid (what else is new) and Bart laughs at him the entire episode. It is one of my favorite ones, but I dont know the title or the season.

Ralph Wiggum: "Principal Skinner and Miss Krabapple were in the janitor's closet making babies. I saw one and it looked at me."

I laughed until I cried and then stopped and then started again....

I think I would have to go with the episode where Milhouse's parents split up, and he's talking about it on the bus. One of the "kids" (the bully with the shaved head...does he have a name??) chimes in with,
"Yeah, the divorce was hard on my kid too"
and out of nowhere this kid crawls out of his coat and says,
"I sleep in a drawer."

Classic.

My favorite episode" the one when Milhous's parents get divorced..."

the last 30 secs are the greatest! When Milhous's dad sings Can I borrow a Feeling

"I'll be back... Pr...Probly"

Yeah, that is a great one:

Kirk: I sleep in a race car, Do you sleep in a race car?
Homer: No, I sleep in a nice big bed with my wife...

Or

Resident: Hey, Kirk! They found a dead cat floating in the pool again...
Kirk: Ah... throw it over the fence and let Arby's deal with it!

Hands down winner!

"Can't sleep, clowns will eat me
Can't sleep, clowns will eat me..."

Soo many great moments in that show. One that comes to mind right away is the chilli eating contest. Oh and the one where Homer, Ned and the boys end up floating off to sea in a raft. "Wrong again Flanders..." haha Good stuff.

Marge: "Homer! There's a man here who says he can help you"
Homer: "Batman?"
Marge: "No, a scientist"
Homer: "Batman's a scientist"
Marge: "It's not Batman!"

or

Skinner: " I know you can read my thoughts Bart. I know you cut class last week and as soon as I can prove it, your ass is mine. THat's right, I think words I'd never say"
Homer: " I know you can read my thoughts boy: meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow"

so many to choose from... back later with more I'm sure

Classic: the Halloween ep with the radioactive Mr. Burns and Mulder and Scully and special guest appearance... Chewbacca!

"I bring you love."

"Is that the love between a man and a woman or between a man and a fine Cuban cigar?"

"Ummm, I bring you love?"

"He wants to bring us love!"

"Break his legs!"

or something like that...
