I've been a fan since the late 80's, I grew up 20 mins south of the (Quebec)Canadian border in Upstate NY and I first saw them on Canadian television. I was always a just a casual fan.

I would always hear thier songs on the radio and love them and want to know who they were so I could get thier album, but would always forget because I'm an American and they don't get radio play here and you don't see them on TV. In the early Napster days, I downloaded some of thier songs, back before it was forbidden to download studio tracks on to your computer.

Then fast forward to 2003, I met a guy who was a big hip fan and he brought it all together for me. It was like 'they do THAT song?' 'They do ALL these songs? I know all of these songs! I LOVE THEM!' I started to do some research online. Then I had to buy my first hip album, IVL. Now it's 2004 and I can't wait to buy all of the albums. I have some bootlegs on my computer and I can't wait to see them live.

The main reason I love the hip is thier uniqueness. They have thier own sound, their own additude, nothing too pretentious, nothing over blown. They just go out on stage and sing. Nothing gets blown up or anything like that. Gord's voice is most definitely one of the best in rock music today. His lyrics are just amazing, he's a genius. Thier sound is mesmerizing, it's just great music. I don't see how people can NOT be a fan, however, my boyfriend isn't, he doesn't like Gord's voice.

Also, we can't forget I do webmaster that little site that's under contruction which is devote to the hot sexy men of the hip so I'd be lying if I didn't say that how good looking the guys are is a factor too. Especially GD and Johnny :thumb:

I'll admit I'm also a fan because I really like Canada, my ancestors are from there, and I've traveled a lot there. I'm also a fan because I always love people who thumb thier nose at succumbing to conforming. The Hip most definitely does that.

So ,there, I hope this clears things up and I'm sure I'll get torn apart but this is what was asked for and here it is.

Why am I a Tragically Hip fan? why not? Who wants to be a fan of a band that is just going to put out one or two albums and disappear. Why be a fan of a band that sounds like everybody else?

The hip are a true sign that size doesn't matter ( In terms of album sales..that is.) Why do we like them so much? because they are ours. The less people that know about them, the closer we feel.

When we are lucky enough to have the Tragically Hip visit our town...It's better than Christmas, and if you are unlucky, and the Tragically Hip are the first band that you see live..No other band will be able to compare, and you won't even get excited when your 2nd favourite band comes to town. No matter how big the venue, you feel like it's just you and the boys. And when it's over...it's hard..I mean, you know it's going to end..but all the way home, you wish they would have just played one more song.

This band may even mean more to us Canadians out there. Kingston was simply another city in Ontario, that is until these five guys made it big. Now people flock there when The Hip aren't touring, in hopes to get a glimpse of one of the four members that still live there.

Gord Downie lives in a rich and historic part of Toronto, and Gord is a Toronto type of person, for those of you that have no idea what i'm talking about, please ignore the rest of this paragraph. When you visit downtown Toronto, you find a different kind of person. Poets and artists all choose downtown because suburbia lacks the culture that they need for inspiration. I'm sure Gord has an easier time of just blending in downtown, because there are so many people, he rides his bike along the waterfront, and through the downtown core. What's not to like about a person like that?

I also like the Hip because of the rest of their fans. I mean, we all seem like great people, willing to help out anybody in any way possible. We may be as special as they are.

They're not Canadian icons..they are world icons. I am proud to live in the same province.

It has been 17 years since their first album came out, and they are as strong and tight as they have ever been. That is why I am a Hip fan.

I first saw the hip in 94 on Saturday night live. I was immediate put in a state of AWE. I went of to the university to study and by midterm was sent home again because I forgot to sign up for my classes. I read the paper for work and seen an ad for a drummer. I became a drummer(and started practicing the art of Ascension by the Ishayas).
We bought an old school bus and put some bunks in it. Drove it around living the Rock-n-Roll life. (with Ascension). Had my breakdown in Nevada. I got really scared of this life. went home to mommy. (still ascending.)
I fell in love and moved to Denver. My girlfriend and I went to see the Hip. First time live. I immediately called my friends up and found a studio. We played all over Denver live and made 3 CD's.
Music@Work came out. I started getting more spiritual. Hooking up with Ishayas monks over coffee at Starbucks-going to First spheres, .
In Violet light came out. Went to See them again-twice in a row. My job didnt seem to matter. Nothing had its seriousness anymore. just that feeling that the hip gives. It's the same that I gave when I played music too. A power, force....connection to the fans....later to find out that it was a connection to the Ascendant(the Source,God, Higher Self, whatever you want to call it) Everything began to fall away in my life. I came to a crossroads---What do I want...
This CD(In Between Evolution)is in perfect Harmony with all the Others. I am now an Ishaya monk in Teacher Traing. I have been validated in the Ascendant. Now I am building a relationship with that. The Hip have been with me the whole time. Thank you Tragically Hip and you guys to for helping me with this stress of judgment about attachment I have been feeling. Helping me wake up to what is real. Praise, Gratitude and Love..... I appreciate your surrender. You have been of Great Service.
