So with the the forthcoming touring immanent who do you guys think the Tragically Hip should have open for them.
my top 3
1. the Constantines
2. the Weakerthans
3. Broken Social Scene
all three bands are very good and very deserving of an opening slot.

I'll say the Spadez..

good call. the spades sounds like a possibility considering the ties that already exist between the bands. of course somebody like hawksley workman might be an option.

I'd love to see the Joel Plaskett Emergency open up for the Hip atleast on the Canadian dates.

I thought Constantines when I read this thread... but I'd like to see Blackie and The Rodeo Kings (Colin's already openning for the boys in Wasaga) and Kathleen Edwards get some gigs.

The Dears would be cool, hawksley workman is a great one aswell. You guys should check out this great band called Stabilo. They have some good tunes, from Vancouver.

I can actually see Sam Roberts opening up for the Hip on the US leg whenever that would be. The Spades are a pretty safe bet too.
Danny Grieves has a new band called Doctor. Who knows when they'll pop up.
Cheers

so im gonna make up a rule (and yes i realize your all gonna blast me for it).
You cannot select bands that fall under the category of can-con radio garbage. i.e. hawksley workman, sam roberts, and blackie and the rodeo queens.
umm yeah, blast away.

Everyone is allowed have an opinion.
That being said, few people put on a show like Hawksley or Sam. Before you pass full judgement, I encourage you to have your socks rocked off.
If you've seen them already, that's cool. Guess they're not just your cup of tea. Out of your choices I can't see the Weakerthans opening for the Hip. While it would be a solid double bill, I just don't see it happening. Constantines would be a nice choice, a good opener. BSS could be cool too.
Whoever it is, I'm sure the band will have some good taste in talent. They certainly have before
Cheers
