Canada Day in TO -
Trippinbillyrmc - 05-11-2004
I heard a rumor that our boys are playing in Toronto for Canada day. I don't know the source of it nor do I fully trust its true...
Anyone else hear anything?

Bookie said the same thing on the Edge this afternoon. If anyone would know, it would be Bookie. Here's hoping. Imagine a free show at Dundas Square
Wishful thinking

I know everyone here is gonna groan but I am hitting up the DMB show at the molson ampitheatre the night before and it would be like a dream come true to see the hip the next day! My 2 favorite bands, back to back!

Have no fear, I'm there too at DMB, with bell's on. I hope you've seen them in that venue before as therefore you'll know what you're about to get from the live music experience.
Cheers

I heard the same thing on the edge today - something along the lines of the hip and canada day just go together-- the molson ampitheatre doesnt have anyone booked that day edgefest is july 2nd

I had thought that EdgeFest was the second because it would be damn near impossible to hold a festival the day after a DMB gig... but, you never know... Canada Day by the lake would be pretty rad.
Cheers

Somehow I don't see this happening...wasn't the last time The Hip played Canada Day in Canada back in '94, '92 or something? And I remember reading during the '92 show all the other bands on the bill got booed, and Gord made a comment about how it all wouldn't have happened if it was July 2nd? I always believed that they tried to avoid this sort of obligatory flag-waving type of show, and in Toronto of all places? But hey, as someone who would be fortunate enough to hopefully attend the show, maybe they'll prove me wrong.

I'll second Heron's impression of the situation. The Hip have tried to be as nice as they can be about the topic without alienating/pissing anyone off, but they *really* object to the whole flag-waving, anthem-singing contingent at their concerts, and it stands to reason that this sort of thing would be in full swing at a show in TO on Canada Day. lets review their performance history for this particular date of the year:
07/01/2003: Gord and the Country of Miracles in TO!
07/01/2002: No show
07/01/2001: ??? (no Hip, not sure about GD)
07/01/2000: Central Park, NYC
07/01/1999: No show
07/01/1998: No show
07/01/1997: No show
07/01/1996: No show
07/01/1995: High Sierra Music Festival, SF Bay area, California
07/01/1994: Molson Park, Barrie ONT
07/01/1993: No show
07/01/1992: Molson Park, Barrie, ONT *AND* Thunderbird Stadium, Vancouver, BC!
No known shows listed before that on 7/1.
So it's been 10 years since they played as a full band in Canada on Canada Day. Who knows, maybe they're ready to give it another shot. Anyone here go to the 07/01/03 GD show? How was the crowd? I would imagine the flag-waving/anthem-singing contingent is much less at GD shows.

And BTW, for whatever it's worth, DMB and TTH is a dream week for me as well. DMB ROCKS!

This show was the MuchMoreMusic Intimate & Interactive. There was no anthem singing, but Gord did mention the fact that it was Canada Day.

The infamous Boots or Hearts with the setting of the Boots on fire was Canada Day 1990 at Molson Park

Brian was the 07/01/2000 show at Central Park @NYC the full band? A little bit confused since you said it has been 10 years since the hip have done a canada day show and you list this 2000 show...was that GD and the Country of Miracles??
