OMG, Gas Prices! - mrlayance - 04-29-2004

Ottawa's about the same. Local papers have been running a series on the collusion and illegal price fixing that SHOULD become an election issue for Paul and the boys, but it probably won't.

If you believe Bob Woodward: Saudi Arabia's Royal Family has promised Dubbya low gas prices for the US election period leading into November. So, might be some relief on the way...

Ah, but Isolation Pay evens out the difference no? I guess you're kinda screwed if you don't have IP though... What's a case of beer cost where you are? Last I checked in Iqaluit, a 2/4 cost $110.

- TLB - 04-30-2004

92.9 here in Vancouver yesterday.

- Summiteer - 04-30-2004

Ya the wages are somewhat higher up to here but we are not really what you'd call insolated just for the fact that there is a road out and dialy flights, even though many folkz that venture up to here feel veryyy isolated. an 18 pack of Canadian is like 42 bonez...kinda pricy but they are nice and cold......whatz an IP?

- D-man - 04-30-2004

On the way home tonight, I noticed the price here in Etobicoke to be 85.9.

- jen - 04-30-2004

1.92 a gallon here...for the cheap grade Confusedcratch:

My car run on diesel so its 66.9 and pretty much is always 66.9 these days. :-)

But the local Petro Canada is 80.9 for regular.

Isolation Pay.

It's a government of Canada stipend for folks with government or "essential" jobs who move from the South to the North. It just ensures that your income isn't eaten up by the higher prices that are due to greater scarcity in really isolated areas. Essentially, it's an equalization payment to ensure that your cost of living is relatively the same if you move from Toronto to Tuktiyuktuk.

I think the usual is 25%. So a $60,000 a year job in Toronto would net you $75,000 a year in that Fisherman's Paradise up there.

Just went up today from 86.9/litre to 88.9/litre..yay Confusedcratch:

Today it's 94.5
Why are we paying so much more here than the rest of the country?
