The Weakerthans - direwolf74 - 04-20-2004

Anybody here listen to these guys? I think they're by far the best rock band to come out of this country since the Hip, and I've made it my goal to turn as many people onto them as I can. Lead singer/songwriter John K. Samson often cites Gord Downie as an influence, and it's easy to see why. His lyrics are beautiful, interesting, and highly literate. Even Gord Downie himself admitted he's been taking notes.

If these guys come through your town anytime soon, I recommend you check them out. Their live show is killer! And make sure you check out their latest disc, "Reconstruction Site". It's an absolute gem!

Being from Winnipeg I'm a bit embarassed to say I haven't heard much of them, and have just started listening to them in the last six months. They're pretty good, but I find it's something that needs repeated listenings. "One Great City" has some hilarious lyrics.
