Best Live Shows (1988-1995) - mkappy47 - 04-19-2004

Just wondering if some of you wouldn't mind ranking your top TTH live shows from 1988-1995. Not necessarily from concerts attended, but in terms of shows that you've listened to.

Man, like asking people to name their favourite child... I'll just put up three great ones that come to mind:

Western Speedway, FC tour, Summer 92.
Fisherman's Paradise
Roxy and Elsewhere

very difficult, but for me there are many different things that make certain shows better than others, sound, rants, setlist

Winter, 1992, Max Bell Centre, Calgary. My first Hip show.
The band was on fire and Gord was completely off the wall, blurting out some of the weirdest between-song banter I've ever heard. During an epic 20-minute version of "New Orleans", he told a story about being operated on in the emergency room because someone had stuck "shards of glass into my eyeballs!"
Later, he proclaimed: "my penis may be small, but it can talk!"
This show also featured a rare performance of one of my all time favorite Hip tunes, Bring it All Back.

As for the crowd, all I can say is that I was lucky to survive the night. This was the era of grunge afterall, and mosh pits were very popular at the time. This particular one was absolutely fierce. My girlfriend and I were stuck right in the middle of the crowd and I think we lost count of how many elbows and boots to the head we endured from the numerous crowd-surfers flying over our heads. Being a small guy, I was having a hard time breathing at certain points and eventually we had to push our way towards the side so we could get some air. We didn't see it, but a friend of mine who was right up front told us that things were so intense and jam-packed that people were passing out left, right, and centre and were continually being hauled over the barrier by security guards. It was a wild night. I remember showing up at school the next day, proudly showing off the bruises on my arms and wearing my brand new new Hip shirt. Ah, memories.

I am very surprised to see that you listed the concert for toronto. I was at that show and was unimpressed.
However the stokholm show is awesome.

i was at the show as well, and inside the dome the sound sucked, totally echoes everywhere, we were on the floor and the sound was a bit better where we were sitting, this concert sealed it for me when i heard the webcast. Gord had some classic rants that night (mostly about sars) grace too, courage, poets, bobcaygeon.......I also loved his introduction of "welcome to Montreal" or his talking about the city of toronto "and how it's not a bad place once you get use to it" ........although they pretty much played a greatest hits package that night, i'm sure it was to try and satisfy all the fans (especially the non hip non-die hard fans)

have you listened to the webcast version, it totatly sounds great. give it a chance,

personally i think they should have had the roof open that night, it would have made for better atmosphere.

Yeah, I Love that webcast. The "Down the Don River... I'm canoeing the fucking stage for you!" rant is great.

And let me just say, having grown up in Georgetown: our mall is better than your mall. Although I do have a soft spot for the Four Corners, since I bought my first Hip bootleg at a hole-in-the-wall record store there.

i like the wetlands shows in 1998. the one in particular is july 23rd.
you can visualize whats going on. a small, hotter than hell theatre and drunken fans just taking over grace too. people just screaming out request for songs.
