Vaccination Scar: to upload or not to upload - TLB - 04-09-2004

I had planned to upload the Hockey Night In Canada video and audio debut of Vaccination Scar to The 100th Meridian but I am having second thoughts.

Would this intrude on what The Hip are trying to do with PureTracks? In an earlier post, Irish Hip Guy pointed out how Feldman's new influence on promoting VC is refreshing to see, and I wouldn't want to impede or negate this process in any way. But what about our foriegn friends? Unfortunately they don't have access to HNIC, PureTracks, or the plethora of Hip-friendly radio stations us Canucks do.

I am thinking of revising my plan for uploading VC. What would you all think if I made the video/audio available to just US/Overseas Hipbasers via FTP/YM/IM? As Canadians, we have ample opportunity to catch HNIC, logon to PureTracks, or tune in on the radio for access to the new single.

I'm at a crossroads because I don't want to interfere with The Hip's promotion of VC or rob them of potential PureTracks sales, but at the same time I know how they depend on fans sharing their music in the US and Overseas, and this would be a perfect opportunity for The Hip's foreign fans to introduce friends and spread their music to as many far-reaching corners as they can.

If The Hip are able to rectify the PureTracks situation to go worldwide by tomorrow night, I don't think my uploads would hurt. If not, I'm still unsure of what to do.

Everybody's input, Canadian or foreign, is eagerly welcomed.

(Afterthought: anyone around the world has access to radio on the Internet. There's a list of Hip-friendly stations on the Hipbase's Radio "Listen Now" page people could use to track down stations in time for tomorrow night.)

If you upload the full video package, then it should be good. It's going to be considerably larger than the wma file you would get from Puretracks, so people might not be able to afford the hard drive space to get it downloaded. Also, count on folks like me, who can't get onto 100th to save their life on going to Puretracks.

I'm a broke college student and I still plan on spending the 99 cents to hear the song whenever the hell I want. I don't think I'm alone on this one.

Share away my friend

Cheers,

Pat

I say upload the video because it's something that would be easily available on TV and could be taped by anyone. However, if it were MP3, that's a different story. You can't burn a video on to a audio disc, not that I'm aware of at least. Besides, I'm American!!! I will be glued to my radio though, no matter how much static I get when I listen to CHOM down here.

Like I've said before, I'd pay the $.99 but I can't, those puretracks bastards

Well how about uploading the mpeg from HNIC. Anyone who cannot access the Puretracks site, be it because they are from another country or do not have credit card or pay pal (assuming they use that) can surely message myself or any other people who would choose to share it. Can always send it through MSN if some people cannot access Puretracks. I'm sure most of those that can, will spring the 99c which is nothing for the most anticipated song since Ballroom and Joe were debuted in Kelowna. I say upload the Mpeg is you are feeling any reservations.

Thanks for everything else you've uploaded to hundredthmeridian, yourself and others like you represent what it means to be a Hip fan, sharing music for the love of it. :thumb: :thumb:

Unfortunately I say upload as well. Some people don't have a) pcs, b) live in other countries, c) lack of credit card. Just a couple of the points.

I understand that the Hip Club card was made available to the last record...but I truely think the Hip should be putting this song on the Hip Club. That site has been dead for some time now.....and is a great innovation that shouldn't go to waste.

But until they do that, downloading the song may be the only option until the CD comes out

I don't see anything wrong with spearding the music. Everyone is going to buy the cd anyway. I personally can't wait to hear it and send it to all my frinends that will be asking about the new single.

Just my 2Cents

Thanks for the votes of confidence folks. The poll currently is in the Yes favour by an 8-to-1 margin. Looks like I'll be uploading the video. If anyone is voting Yes for the audio portion, please post that you are as I can't tell from the poll.

And thanks for the compliment Mark Smile

By the way...there's nothing wrong with uploading the HNIC preview because it will have all that HNIC crap on top of it. The crowd noise, the announcer's voices in the clips from the previous game, etc.

It's not like you're giving a clean album version away!

- TLB - 04-11-2004

You never want to put our privilage of being able to tape their shows in jeopardy. If everyone thought that by doing this, it would put things in jeopardy, I wouldn't have uploaded it.

As a Hip fan that isn't even near the border (stupid North Carolina) I would be very greatful for this.
