I am am avowed 80s hater. I lived in England til 1992 so I THANKFULLY missed the 80s in America. It will be a deep and profound sense of shame I feel when my kids realize I was born during the age of sweatbands, neon, synthesizers, giant gay hair and SHOULDER PADS. Even across the ocean, there were certain elements of the 80s you just couldn't avoid.

So what are your worst memories of the 80s? In no particular order...

While some stuff born and bred of the 80's is crap...and I agree the Rocky sequals all suck....how can you hate the original??? Maybe its just being from the Philly area...but that makes me so sad to see. Cry

Ah, I just tend to lump them altogether. Call me crazy, but the fact that a hundred awful sequels came along makes me hate the original. Seriously. I kind of enjoyed it the first time I ever saw the first one, but it's just so tainted by the sequels that the whole Rocky thing is brought way, way down in its entirety.

Plus it's Sylvester Stallone. Ugh.

Well it was a part of the bizarre Australian boom in the US that happened in the 80s. I'm not saying it's restricted to the 80s, but it certainly gained a lot of notoriety during that period. Before the 80s I doubt anybody in North America knew what vegemite was.

I don't hate the 80's at all, think it had a lot of great things going for it. I mean just take a look at some of the movies produced during that time:

1. The Goonies
2. The Never Ending Story
3. E.T.
4. The Breakfast Club
5. Stand by Me

Those are just classics, and then music, I mean : The Bangles, Mr Mister, Cyndi Lauper, Pat Benatar, Golden Earring, Nick Kershaw, Bananarama, Nena.. how can you hate all of them?

I don't really hate the '80's. I was born in the '70's, so I was thrust full force into the abomination they called fashion back then. I still like a lot of the music though.

It takes me back to the days of Z. Cavarici (sp?) clothing. Dozens of I.O.U. Sweaters, and who could forget Skidz! :thumb: Maybe it was just an American thing. Mark, Highway Girl, do you guys remember Chess King and that other store...what was the name? The folding and rolling of the pants by the ankles! Sweet.

The music though, second to none. I AM a self confessed '80's headbanger and proud of it. I had all the hair bands in my collection - Ratt, Cinderella, Poison, Crue and so on. Rock on!

you know what really sucked? The 90's. the hip, rancid and lotr is about the only good comin out o the 90's. Mostly terrible music like pearl jam and stone temple pilots etc. I really can't stand grunge. It was really a decade of trying to be like the old days. Newbie hippies and punks trying to be what they aren't instead of what they want to be. This is the decade all the 80's haters went to die. All the 90's gangsta stuff is laughable. We had peeps like that out on the prairies but come on an gangsta in regina? HAHAHA. It seemed like individuality took a dump. Anyhoo I'm not a big fan of the 80's either but at least it wasn't watered down. For those of us old enough to have experienced the 80's and were not just born during them it was a lot of fun. For us deadheads the 90's was the end of a way of life. We lost our leader and it wasn't until the 00's that we were back. We miss you Jerry. He was once one and will now forever be one of the grateful dead. A dead tour and a hip tour this summer!!! A dream come true.

The most amusing thing about The Never Ending Story is that it had a sequal...if its never ending....then...part II doesn't make too much sense.
