Hey Guys and Gals,
I don't know if anyone can help me, but i have a paper due next week in philsophy. The question is, "using Micheal Walzer's Collective and Individual responsibility, Socrates' Crito, and Alasdair MacIntyre's Is Patriotism a Virtue, are individuals in a liberal regime obligated to go to war? If anyone can help me with this thru own thoughts, or maybe links to other websites, it would be greatly appreciated. I hate philosophy, and I am not looking forward to writing this thing at all. hock: Philosophy is great!! but testy :? Well, here is a website that I used when I read "The Last Days oF Socrates"... and remember that Socrates died because it was decided by the republic that he should, and he should obey orders..... So I would argue that (acc. to Crito) one would be obligated.
Socrates is loyal to the state, and remember he mentions something at the end of the dialogue about God, so perhaps he only follow the state because he believes it is outlined by God (then you have to deal with God and State)
