repeated lyrics on CMG -
Jenna_Bird - 03-18-2004
I was leafing through
CMG today and I noticed something that I managed to miss despite reading the book endlessly and always singing along to the CD. The lyrics "world enough and time" are used in "Mystery" and in "Lofty Pines"...did anyone else pick up on this??

the phrase "super farmer" is used twice on Phantom Power - in Poets and The Rules. And there's a repeated line on M@W too. It's weird that Gord would repeat himself on the same album all the time!

And don't forget that the phrase "your finger starts to wiggle and landscapes emerge" is used both in Impossibilium and Emergency on the Day For Night album...

FULLY COMPLETELY
"Garbage bag trees" in Looking and 100th.
PHANTOM POWER;
"Women are swimmin'" in 2 different songs.
2 different things are "edible" in 2 different songs (headphones and
something else. I can't remember..)
"Home is solitude with options" on Fireworks and Chagrin Falls.
MUSIC @ WORK;
2 things are "Carmelised". An "oinion" and "power"
Algonquin Park is mentioned twice.
There's 2 songs about traveling, either by plane or train.
There are diamonds in Putting Down and The Completists.
And the sun grooms a plane with its rays (crepuscular ones) in The
Bastard, but it's the moon's turn (with benevolent rays) in Freak
Turbulence.
There are hummingbirds in MMAW and Wild Mountain Honey.

Bits and pieces of CMG have been heard throughout concerts over the years (yes, it's kind of off topic and kind of on topic).
Sailboat -pg. 2: This poem came from the song known as Bumblebee, on the Phantom Power demo tape
Trick Rider -pg. 4: The lines "I'll stroke your hair/ I'll dry your cheeks/ when the failures come/ and no one speaks" were spoken often during concerts from 1996 onward...
Insomniacs -pg. 16: Of course, we all recognize this, but it first appeared, in written form, in the ARA 97 survivor's guide.
Starpainters -pg. 21: We all recognize this also. This was first presented in spoken form on the PP tour in 1998. Gord also recited the entire poem while the crowd sang "O Canada" during the Intimate and Interactive at Muchmusic on June 24th, 2000.
Songwriter's Cabal -pg. 22: These lines frist appeared during the Henhouse tour in 1996
SF Song -pg. 39: parts of this song were also introduced during the 1998 PP tour.
Toiletten -pg. 40: First mentioned at the surprise NXNEToronto show on June 9th, 1997. Gord was telling the crowd about Hitler's podium in Nuremburg.
The Vegas Strip -pg. 42: Again, from the 1998 Phantom Power demos
I wonder what I thought I'd do -pg. 46: Gord recited much of this poem during the NYE and NYD shows in Toronto
Every Irrelevance pg. 50: First appeared as a song with Gord and the
Rheostatics in 1997. Gord recited bits of it on LBU.
Never-Ending Present -pg. 598: The lines first appeared on the PP tour in 98
Lofty Pines -pg 61: same as above
Align -pg.67: The first six lines of the poem have been spoken in concert since 1996

"The radio was edible and you said don't wipe your ashes with your sleeve..."
It was the radio that was edible. Gord is edible. :wink:
