O.k. I swear I heard on news that some politician is wanting another country to join Canada. It was a tropical one. :jump Has anyone else heard of this? It's really bugging me. It has not been on the news since, and I can't find any info on the net! Did I dream it? I hope not because I hate Winter!

Interesting but slightly weird idea, if the US thought about this, i think world opinion would have a slightly different tone. but then again, we can escape to florida :thumb:

Pretty sure you guys already have a few places like this. Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands spring to mind. I'm proabably missing a few.

Don't forget about Hawaii! I know as Canadians we have the privledge to live in the US 6 months out of the year and vis versa. But unless you have a lot of money it's just about impossible to do. I really hope this works out. I mean I would love to have at least the option. :thumb:

I was thinking more along the lines of places that weren't really states but still fall under the control of the US government. Like Puerto Rico is a self-governing commonwealth in association with the United States. The chief of state is the Presadent of the USA. Sot really a state but still more or less a part of the US.
I imagine a similar arrangement would be made with the T & C's if this were to go ahead. I'm all for it. :thumb:

Ahh o.k. Sorry I don't know how I could have missed that!
Yeah and me to! It really makes a lot of sense! I can't believe it was rejected twice before.

i used to live in Puerto Rico when i was a kid, as far back as I can remember they've always had a love/hate relationship with association with the US. They love the advantages it gives them ( taxes, travel, duties, etc) but hate the fact that their association is a by product of the 1892 Spanish-American War.

The USA has 5 territories. Don't ask me what they are - I only know the two mentioned in this thread (Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands). But there are a total of 5 regions that are under US jurisdiction or whatever...I'd be curious to know what the rest are.
Some American might call me wrong on this...all I know is this is what Ed Gillespie, the Republican party heavyweight, said during an interview. Normally I would never take a Republican's word for ANYTHING, but this seemed kinda credible.
After all, just because Bush doesn't know about anything outside the contiguous 48 states doesn't mean everyone else in his party doesn't.

Ouch, Hey he's at least been to England and canada! lol, anyway I think the 3 other territories are Guam, The Marshall Islands in the pacific and possibly Antigua? Or is that a French possession? Oh and dont forget the research station on the Ross Ice Shelf..does that count?
