The Weakest Link - The Weakest Links - Final Round - gsmacleod - 11-26-2018

Coconut Cream slides in at 12th and we head to the final round.

1 - Another Midnight and Lionized
3 - The Rules
4 - Summer's Killing Us
5 - Hot Mic and Impossibilium
7 - Born In The Water
8 - The Modern Spirit
9 - Wild Mountain Honey
10 - Are You Ready
11 - Frozen In My Tracks
12 - Coconut Cream

For the last of The Hip Weakest Link polls, we are going to turn the voting around; instead of voting for the song you think is the weakest, you are going to vote for the song you think is the strongest.

Vote for the song you feel is STRONGEST from the list. After 48 hours we will remove the song with the most votes and the other will be the weakest link in the entire discography.

This round will end Wednesday 10:18am Eastern.

Happy voting,

Shane

If this is the last of the weakest link polls, does anyone have any ideas on other threads or 'activities' to keep the action up on the board?

Regardless of how you vote, that's quite the diverse pair of songs.

We still haven't done Gord's solo albums yet. I anticipate there will be some excellent discussions about those records (thoughts & insights), as well as corresponding weakest link polls.

We could even do Paul's solo albums as well if people are interested.

I've got plenty of ideas for future threads if the forum stays alive.

Yes to all of the above.

Very different indeed. If you played Pretend to the Hip in 1987 and told them it was a glimpse 20 years into their future, I wonder how they would have reacted. Disgust? Disappointment? Worried that they were going to evolve from a bar band straight into a lounge act? Similarly, I wonder how the Hip of 2006 would have reacted to hearing Werewolf again for the first time in years. Would it also have been with disgust? Or would it have been more of a reaction of amusement?

The EP is very amateurish, no bones about it, but I never really understood the bands hatred of it and how they seemed to want to distance themselves from it. I know Gord D didn't write the songs, but there a still a few quality tracks on there. Well "quality" when you take into account they were a fresh new band anyways, definitely stronger than some other first albums released.

I would have loved to have heard Highway Girl, Last Canadian Exit, or Small Town Bringdown live over the years.

While they are far from my favourite hip tracks, I would have loved, LOVED if they dusted off any of those 3 in Kingston

Re: The Weakest Link - The Weakest Links - Final Round - potsie - 12-05-2018

I understand that the EP was never going to fit into the tour as a 4 song mini-set, but it sure would have been nice to hear Smalltown in Kingston. It would have been perfect as the first song of the first encore, bringing the band full circle and blowing the roof off the place. I would have loved to hear how that song sounded, circa 2016, more than 20 years after it was last played.

Agreed on Smalltown as the closer. Would have been beautiful. But I don't think the band like those songs. The EP is a masterpiece for most bar bands, but garbage for one of the best rock bands of all time.

I only consider you scum compared to Krusty.

Except for Gord Sinclair. Word is he considers it the zenith of the Hip's career and that it was all down hill after '87.
