"Secret Path” is the award winning multi-media project that seamlessly blends Gord Downie's poetry and music with Jeff Lemire's graphic novel. It tells the wrenching and all too common story of Chanie Wenjack, a 12-year-old boy who died in 1966 after running away from the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School near Kenora, Ontario. Finding the Secret Path is an intimate concert film and documentary that captures Gord Downie, behind the scenes, as he prepares for an emotional and historic Secret Path performance, before the entire Wenjack family, at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, interwoven with footage from the original animated film.

Pretty sure this was broadcast on CBC a year ago? That version is only an hour, while this one says it's 95 minutes. Perhaps this is simply an extended version of the original broadcast.

On Friday at 9 p.m., the third and final documentary related to the project — Finding The Secret Path — will air on the public broadcaster. It includes never-before-seen footage of Downie’s last year. This is must-watch TV that’s also hard to watch.

I'm in the US and my cable company carries CBC and showed it.
I made it about 10 minutes and couldn't watch it anymore. Didn't expect it to hurt seeing him.
So I turned off the tv and put this on:

I haven’t seen the new doc yet as I live in the US and CBC blocks these things. There has to be a way though...

My five year old son and I watched the animated film this morning. That is really a masterwork.

What a simple, poignant story Gord told, beautifully brought to life be Jeff Lemire.

Nolan could immediately understand exactly what was happening.

And that’s how you teach the next generation to be better than those who came before.

Well done, Gord. A life well-lived. I miss you all the time but your inspiration pushes me forward.

I am in the US and watched it online through a VPN app.

I remain so awestruck by the fact that this man, in his final year of life and struggling through the toll of cancer and cancer treatment, decided to use that time to help bring these horrible stories to light. He could have quietly spent the rest of his life out of the limelight. Gord was pure love and unselfishness.

Pearl and Daisy are now traveling to schools throughout Canada sharing their residential school experiences, and kids are putting on their own “Secret Path” concerts and plays.
