According to Stephen Brunt on a podcast (Toronto Mike) last week, indicated that he has learned that new Gord Downie material is soon to be released.

Gord still had a couple of other projects in the can before he passed, including an album with Dale Morningstar/Dinner is Ruined, and another one he worked on with Bob Rock. I assume it will be one of those that gets released next.

So I've been saving Introduce Yerself in an attempt to preaerve some new Gord for myself (have only heard the first half). Excellent news. May finally be able to bring myself to finish IY if theres some more coming down the pipeline

Really curious about the Bob Rock collab. Rock is vastly better suited to 'gentler' stuff ('hotel room' Gord) than to serious rock music, which he generally ruins with his cheesy '80s ethos. The potential is there, as songs like 'Morning Moon' or 'Coffee Girl' show, for a really gorgeous album, as long as they didn't try to rock out.

I really enjoyed the album Rock made with Ron Sexsmith, "Long Player Late Bloomer". He even recruited Travis Good (the Sadies) and Kevin Hearn to play on that album. If Rock managed to bring a similar sensibility to Gord's album, it just might work.

Agree completely. The Sexsmith album is gorgeous. Exactly that sensibility is what I'd love to hear from the Rock/GD collab. I'm just fearful of a reprise of the more awful moments from WC.

If this is indeed an album about a train derailment, as stated in the Barclay book, then I'm quite intrigued.
Some thoughts:
1. Real or Imagined: Will it be historical fiction, reflecting an actual (presumably) Canadian train accident or whether this it will be entirely a product of his imagination?
2. Influences: Gord wore his Johnny Cash influence on his sleeve in the past ten years, during the time he would have been working with Rock. There was the Folsom Prison pic of Cash inside WATS liner notes, covering Cash's 'The Man Comes Around', "The sweat of Johnny Cash" on 'Yellow Days', the sonic influence of Cash on the 'And the Conquering Sun'. Cash also has a concept album about trains called 'Ride This Train'. Although a mediocre and simplistic album by Cash standards, I wonder if the train concept was an influence on Gord? Or maybe he was inspired by Lightfoot's "iron road runnin' from the sea to the sea" and decided to write about a piece of Canadiana, marred by tragedy?
3. Instrumentation: Train derailment seems like a topic that would lend itself better to an acoustic treatment. Stories of death and despair are the stuff of folk songs. I'm hoping that this is a quieter album on which you can feel the air in the room.
4. Band: No mention in the book of this being a Country of Miracles album. I don't know how much of the music Gord has written on his previous solo albums (likely little-to-none on Introduce Yerself, Secret Path, And the Conquering Sun) so this could be the first album where he takes the reigns both musically and lyrically. Or it could be Rock doing the music in a collaboration similar to what Gord did with Kevin Drew on Secret Path.
