The Weakest Link - We Are The Same - Round 3 - gsmacleod - 03-09-2018

With a three way tie, we will just eliminate Queen of the Furrows in Round 2 and move on to Round 3.

Eliminated Round 1
Frozen In My Tracks
Now The Struggle Has A Name

Eliminated Round 2
Queen of the Furrows

Vote for the song you believe to be the weakest on We Are The Same and after 48 hours, we will remove the three songs that have the most votes. As before, a song must have at least 10% of the vote in order to be removed otherwise it will carry forward into the following round.

The poll will end Sunday at 10:07am Eastern.

I love that song, and don't understand the hate. Voted Country Day again as I can't stand the over-the-top string arrangement and terrible backing vocals. An example of Bob Rock at his worst with the Hip. I also feel like a jerk for bashing it...the song in and of itself is not bad, I just can't stand the production.

I think the decision to vary the drum beat in Exact Feeling saves it, and makes for a decent palate cleanser on the album. And I've said this already but I love "the tiger's wheeling and covering some ground" line...I can visualize a tiger doing that and it feels like a very apt description for a depression or a bad feeling returning. Ultimately it's JF's beat that earns this song at least one more round from me.

'Feeling' has very fun lyrics. Classic GD stuff (up to my torch, up to my tits, maybe I got no more innnnerest...' 'tiger's wheeling...' 'hey bartender one morea these...') Its bashers should consider that.

The loping drum beat is a nice change of pace, not something we hear much from them. Nothing wrong with that either.

Gord's vocals are unusually *relaxed.* I like that. Some don't, but I think it sounds good - much better than the adenoidal horrors of 'Drop Off,' say. In fact it's a main reason why I listen to the song.

The guitar sound is controversial, but I enjoy it. Wouldn't want it on every track, but as a one-shot, sure.

All it really lacks is a big hook.

So I think it's fine. Not a classic by any means, but a good album cut. And certainly it's not nearly as harrowingly bland as 'Speed River,' which is as forgettable as the Hip get.

I don't have an issue with Gord's relaxed vocals but I do feel like a change in delivery and tone would have helped for the chorus. While there are some interesting lines in the verses, lyrically and melodically the chorus is drab. There is very little variance between the opening "The exact feeling" and the later "In the exact feeling". If Gord had provided some vocal contrast in the chorus to differentiate it from the verses, I think the song would have benefited.

Just listened to Speed River and was enjoying the lyrics if nothing else. Now I’m kinda grooving to FroMyTrak.
