The Weakest Link - Yer Favourites Champ - No Threat - gsmacleod - 02-07-2018

Before we move on to World Container, a brief check in with the two previously unreleased tracks on Yer Favourites.

Vote for the song you believe is the weaker of the two and after 48 hours, the song with the fewest votes will be the champion!

Voting will end Friday at 10:03am Eastern.

Wow, was not expecting this.

Almost instinctively went to click The New Maybe as the weaker song, but now am holding back. I enjoy both of these songs very much. No Threat has more oomph and maybe more curb appeal but has always seemed to me to be a bit unfinished, abrupt, whereas The New Maybe seems like a more complete composition. I may hang back in the weeds and read other people comments before voting.

And now, in a February snowstorm in Toronto, I'm humming, "I know what winter's about ...",

I don't think I've ever heard a Hip b-side that I thought should have made the album. Maybe it's the things we don't say.

Agree that neither of these two is even close to being worthy of being on Yer Favs. Then again most new songs tacked on to "greatest hits" albums are rarely worthy of inclusion. "Electrical Storm" on U2's "Best of 1990-2000" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" on Petty's greatest hits being two exceptions.

Wow...lots of dislike for these songs? I think they are both great. New Maybe is a sweet, simple melodic song with some of Gord's finest lyrics, imho, and No Threat is one of my top 5 Hip songs of all time. Hard to vote against New Maybe, but it was a bit of a no-brainer for me. I love the energy and rawness of No Threat, the main guitar riff is awesome, and it's about a window washer! What more could you want in a song!?

If I had to choose one, that'd be it, though I have a soft spot for Get Back Again, which I first heard on a bootleg CD I bought over the internet in university.

No dislike from me. I like them both (voted for New Maybe), but they don't belong on a greatest hits album. I would have preferred Yer Favs without them, and then have included No Threat and New Maybe on World Container, dropping Pretend, and making it a 12 song album. I don't hear No Threat enough because I don't listen to Yer Favs. Put it on WC, and I'd get the opportunity to listen to it a lot more.

I don't think these songs would have worked on WC, and if they were on WC Bob Rock would've ruined them

He might have clogged up the sound on New Maybe but I think he would have done fine with No Threat. I've got no issue with what Bob did with the rockers on WC.
