It was a good life but now it's weakened...great song but not as as great as the remaining two.

This is extremely tough, but I'm gonna have to go with Dark Canuck here. The other two songs are absolute perfection, while the Dark Canuck is merely almost perfection.

Good Life with different lyrics in the second verse would be a challenger for Dark Canuck and Dire Wolf, but the repeated lyrics make it less attractive for me.

It wasn't really a consensus. It had 48% of the vote. It still had the most votes, though.

IVL is a better album than I've given it credit for in the past. IAGLIYDW, Darkest One, Dire Wolf, and Dark Canuck are all really strong songs.

Tough call. "Dark Canuck" is only half a great song - the last part ('if we ever get home'...) - but that half is one of the best things the Hip ever did IMHO. If they had decided to separate it from the first part ("The Short Answer's 48 Hours," that part), adding maybe a brief prelude to set it up as a stand alone song, they would have had an incontestably all-time great track. Instead you're really voting for the second half of a song, which is weird.

By contrast, "Good Life" is epic, but has two things going against it: the repetition of its one verse, and the fact that it's another song about performing in a rock band, which is, as subject matter, much less interesting than the other two songs. (For all of that, GD manages to transcend the limitations of that subject matter, with some incredibly evocative lines and that distinctive, classic Downie melody).

I went with "Good Life" regardless, because I love the timely and savage commentary on the War on Terror in "Dark Canuck."

Incidentally, this is a rare case where I completely agree with what we've been left with in the final round. These three songs are the class of IVL. ('Leave' isn't too far back there, though, in my book, despite being unceremoniously jettisoned in this process; but it's still not on the same tier as these three).

Happy to see Dire Wolf is the favorite song on the album. Was my favorite since day 1, and never knew how other fans felt about it until now.

Basically had to flip a coin here. Love all these three songs. I went against the grain and voted Dire Wolf. I think Good Life is a beautiful song that was a totally different direction for the Hip to go in. And I just absolutely adore Dark Canuck and the idea of combining two songs (something they took even a step further with Depression Suite, which I think is an amazing song) was another great choice by the band to experiment with.

It didn't win yet. All these Good Life voters might turn on it. ... for example, probably me.

I think I'd prefer the instant gratification of moving from "The Dire Wolf" into a fleshed out "part 2" of The Dark Canuck. That would be a helluva of a one-two knockout punch to finish IVL.

Nah you wouldn't ... it'd be too powerful. It'd be like Emperor Penguin powerful.
