Will the Hip' final concert be released on CD or MP3? - Raymond23 - 12-17-2017

Sorry if this has been discussed (I looked for a thread). With the final concert coming on Blu and DVD, I just assumed that it would also be released on an audio only format (stand alone or bundled with the DVD). I love watching the concert but I'm much more likely to listen to it in my car or from my phone. It doesn't look like this is happening. Any word about it being released? Did I miss its inclusion on the product release? Is a (legal) download available somewhere? Thanks!

Legal download? No. Is it out there anyway? Yes

There's some pretty good downloads out there but I'll probably try to extract the audio from the Blu Ray to listen to as well. Depending on what they use, you should be able to get a 24/96 or maybe even a 24/192 version from it. I'm guessing 24/48 from the DVD based on other live shows I've ripped from (including That Night In Toronto). If I'm not mistaken, Bob Ludwig mastered it so I have high expectations.

I've AB'ed a few songs from my PVR copy and Blu Ray of National Celebration and Ludwig has done some fantastic work on this (not surprisingly). Not the CBC did a bad job flying by the seat of their pants but Ludwig's treatment certainly is a marked improvement.

My hope is that there's a 3 or 4 LP release in the works; having Ludwig master it makes me wonder if a vinyl pressing was something being considered depending on how sales of DVD/BR go as well as the other vinyl offerings.

Thanks for that. I haven't gotten around to extracting the audio but I'm definitely more excited to now

An obsessive audiophile friend of mine had this to say abou the bluray audio

"Why was The Tragically Hip’s final concert released on Blu-ray with only lossy DVD-quality audio options? Both the stereo and 5.1 tracks are 192 Kbps and 448 Kbps respectively, did someone mess up on the authoring here? Even in 2007 a BD without lossless or uncompressed audio would have been met with disdain, but in 2017 and given the subject matter it seems inexcusable."
