Was thinking about my contribution to the bag infestation on the planet as I pulled my lunch from its plastic vessel, which lead to thinking about the "garbage bag trees" lyric & wondering once again if this is really what GD had in mind. Put my keyboard to use and voila, found this. (Btw, it was, he says: "it was Winter heading into Spring when trees are without leaves and seem to attract garbage bags that roost in their branches.")

They were optimistic about staying friends and playing together for another 10 years. It's extremely cool to know now that they did it for 20 more, and stayed together until circumstances beyond their control...Love over money...
Also, this and more:
Q. What is "Scared" really about?
A. Fear of obsolescence? Fear of Fraudulence? Fear of Fear? A fear-peddlar going door-to-door selling ... you guessed it ... Fear? - GD

I've never seen this before. Some great insight in some of those answers. Thanks for sharing! I thought this was particularly cool...
When asked who are some of the bands you guys like to listen to? Gord responded with:
"I won't commit the error of catalogues and lists, when it comes to music I'll leave that up to Maclean's Magazine."
Lofty Pines is one of my favourite songs of all time, so it's pretty cool to know that he had that phrase kicking around in his head a few years before penning the song. Something that seemed to happen a lot for him.

Lofty Pines was the name of a hotel/motel.
It is now the Knights Inn Bracebridge, Ontario.

1998-only time ever played as a stand alone song (thanks to Paul's need for a stage break)

This is awesome! I've never seen that before either. Sorry, knightrider, for turning this into the origin of Lofty Pines thread.

Ha I don't care, there are several interesting answers in this fanterview. But is there a more developed live performance of Lofty Pines with Gord and The Dinner band we can link? I love the song but it's hard to decipher in this dead-air-killing impromtu rough-cut version.

I'm going to watch the hell out of this later. I've lamented how more from the string of solo shows GD did that summer were never recorded. Correct me if I'm wrong, but all we have from this time is the audio of the show from TT The Bear's in Cambridge, MA earlier the same week as this show (captured from a Real Audio livestream - it's not pretty) and the three songs played on Much Music on the 9/11 benefit.
I have fond memories of the Hillside Festival show (which was the night before that show in Cambridge). Gord told the story of how Dave Bidini saved his life by performing the Heimlich manoeuvre during Elaborate and it was one of the funniest things I had ever heard. Also the first time I heard the "alt-version" trainwreck that was 11th Fret.

Sweet, thank you! And a bra salesman intro! And a reminder about one of my favorite and befuddling stolen Gord quotes. Will have to check out the rest of this show.
So as long as we're all in on Lofty Pines here, can someone translate the Manhattan french lyrics?
"Je suis nee pour la chaleur"
She said in her Manhattan French
"On ne peut rien faire de la chaleur"
We'll just have to take that chance
We've got world enough and time
Dreaming of the Lofty Pines

Yeah, this was an amazing find. Looks like it was only added this year. I only searched for it because of this thread!

"Q. At the Boston and Burlington shows Gord said that the Hip chat on the internet sucks. What did he mean by those comments exactly, since the band has taken part in chat sessions on the internet themselves.
A. Hip Chant, I said The Hip Chant sucks. When opening bands selected by us, usually our friends, are Hipped by a small minority of the crowd - that sucks. - GD"
