The Weakest Link - Trouble at the Henhouse - Round 3 - gsmacleod - 11-14-2017

Right down to the wire but those of you who voted for Sherpa will get the chance again in Round 3! It hangs on by one vote to remain into this round with 700ft Ceiling (??), Apartment Song and Let's Stay Engaged eliminated.

Vote for the song you believe to be the weakest remaining on Trouble at the Henhouse and after 48 hours, we'll eliminate the two songs with the most votes. As before, a song must have 10% of the vote in order to be eliminated.

Starting to get down to more interesting now.

I didn't vote for it, but Springtime never really connected with me too much. But I just can't bring myself to vote for it knowing that it was one of Gord's favourites. I just can't do it.

Ah... going with the "WWGD" (What Would Gord Do) voting philosophy. You're right. He'd have Springtime running the table on this one.

I went with Sherpa this time around.

I see ABAC has collected its first vote... surely the result of song fatigue and not a comment on quality, which admittedly can sometimes be difficult to separate, but which I've personally been striving to do in this process.

It's apparent - much more so than in previous polls - that quite a few people have radically different responses to the music on this album than I do. 'Put It Off' and '700 Ft Ceiling' are quite obviously to me two if the best cuts on the albums. They're also the only two tracks that have that quality of menace to them that was so distinctive about the Hip up to DFN. Yet they're going down in flames. It just beats me, but hey -

Agreed - Put it Off and 700ft Ceiling are two of my favourites from this album. Sad to see them go!

I didn't even vote for Put It Off but I definitely wouldn't list it in the top half. Sometimes I dig GD's proper nouns (Kurt Cobain reincarnated) but other times they feel forced and too specific. "Love Tara, by Eric's Trip" feels that way to me, and colours my enjoyment of that song. Just the song title, or just the band name, might have felt different, but the two together feels too specific. Small thing, but most Hip songs are so perfect that one misstep is enough to send them down my rankings.

To be honest it feels gross expressing any kind of critique given that this is now all we'll ever get. Part of me just wants to love everything.
